Unless you have 'I AM A STOKIE' written across your forehead, I think you'll get away with it.

If you keep your mouth shut it souldnt be a problem but could you really keep quiet if we scored the winner in the 90th minute???

Just go!
In the late seventies and almost every week in the eighties I nearly always went in the other teams end to avoid being locked in the ground for ages afterwards.
So long as you don't go o-t-t if we score you'll be fine even if the people in your immiediate area suss you out!

As others have said if you get in via this method keep quiet and you'll be fine...many on here will have done it at one time or another ( even before the ID cards )..
However believe yes, in the right circumstances you are committing a potential offence.
In effect you're breaching grounds regs..which then opens you up to offences under the football spectator act ( 1989,1991,1999 )/ and safety at sports grounds
Believe at least one of the sections of the football spectator act is losely worded to cover harresment to others at a designated football match..and there's also bits in the safety at sports grounds too.
In that it's an offence to cause others to feel threatened or harrassed at a football match ..it's potential fair comment that a home supporter might feel harrassed or threatened if they knew an away fan was in their midst.
It's worse than that, no member of the public has to actually be harrassed, threatened or even feel so , they don't even need to exist , but you'd be potentially committing an offence if in the opinion of a police officer they might, or would if they existed.
IE there's enough there to do you if they like...The aim is obviously for that situaion not to occur
One of the problems of well intentioned 3rd parties offering a relative to buy tickets is they often offer before speaking to the relative who's going to actually do the buying...or that the 3rd party gets cold feet
Best of luck

i done it loads of times before, u just have to sit on ur hands and shut up, clap if and when the home team scores, and desperatly try not to join in with the stoke songs. last year at qpr i was sitting in the stand just to the left of the stokies. i tried for dear life to get near my fellow stokies. when sidibe, (yes sidibe) scored, i jumped up and then clapped, every fooker looked at me, even the sombraro man, he is a twat ;D

PS..if that's your route in I wouldn't think twice about using it..just do the decent thing for those that are sorting you out .......by going fucking mental when we score in the 90th minute to confirm promotion to the Premiership and then kick off when the locals tell you sit down and shut up. That'll impress your friends family no end.

In all honesty I don't think the police have a leg to stand on with this. If you pay your money you are entitled to sit where you want, obviously jumping up and down shouting Stoke have scored in a Nigel Johnson style aint the best idea, but as long as you aint causing trouble theres not much they can do.
As for the FA setting rules for stadiums, they are the ones who insist on stadiums like Wembley having areas for the neutral fan, so I don't see how it differs in all stadia.
