excellent piece, and also very interesting to read that the current SA manager had a connection dating back to the team of lads from soweto that Stan took to Brazil in 1975

great man...just highlights even more what a bunch or rimmers most modern day footballers are. ....& even when he was 50 he still would have been quicker than Gareth Barry was trying to get back on that 4th goal!!!!

Thanks for that Bunny, great watch. I never knew the link with Perreira either.
It was just a shame that in the studio Shearer and Hansen didn't appear to have much idea what was going on apart from piping up with the 'oooh, he played until he was 50' bit.

How proud this makes me feel, and even less concerned about the performance of those selfish, useless 'Golden Generation'
Sir Stan was worth a thousand of them.

It was just a shame that in the studio Shearer and Hansen didn't appear to have much idea what was going on apart from piping up with the 'oooh, he played until he was 50' bit. Thought the same. Would have been interesting to hear Seedorf's opinion too. After a crappy day, with thoughts of overpaid and overhyped England players letting you down, it's nice to finish with a true footballing man who helped underprivaleged black africans during the apartheid era play football and ironically coach them the modern game in 1975 - which our England team can't play in 2010!!

Loved the adidas training gear with his face on it, and "Sir Stan's Boys" on the back.
Sort it, Stoke.

The piece on Sir Stan on MOTD was presented by Roger Johnson, who is, I believe, son of the great Nige which might account for his knowledge of the Sir Stanley Matthews Foundation he referred to.

I didnt know that he had done so much for Black footballers in Soweto, our club should make the most of the connection and try and develop some links there in his memory, fantastic short film to see how much he meant to those people

Was truly excellent and should be shown again or perhaps a proper documentary made! He was truly a great man. Imagine Big Brother (BB ) with dead people in it, it'd prolong Jade's career.............who do we bury first, you decide!

Yeah, let's get some invited over to a game. Can you imagine the current club hierarchy organising that? They had one of the easiest sells in the world with the unveiling of Gordon Banks' statue and they ended up with James Nesbitt and Alastair Campbell.
