Over the last couple of years our aspirations have somewhat gone through the roof. Least us forget where people we have come from.
When Steve Quitter left, the club was really in a mess having sacked Gudjon previous we needed someone to enable us to survive that man was Tony Pulis.
He kept us up playing the worst football I can remember as a fan except Brian Little. However we were back in the second tier of English football and after watching us for so long playing the Cambridge United’s of this world I was delighted.
The next couple of years were painful to watch at times however looking back we were slowly becoming respected by other bigger spending rivals. But people started to take disliking to this band of football and the Pulis haters were born.
Football is a game of opinions and this became no more apparent when Boskamp was installed replacing Pulis as manager.
At times his football was an absolute joy to watch and people raved about him ‘Who needs Mourinho we’ve got Boskampio’ who can remember that chant after beating Hull and a certain Paul Gallagher scoring the winner. However this brand of football had its floors. 4-0 defeats at home were quiet a common Saturday reality.
So the Iceman left and the return of Coates and Pulis two man not exactly loved by the masses. The mission the premier league. Things started awful but a couple of inspired loans i.e. Lee Hendrie and timely return to forms Ricardo Fuller meant we turned around our fortunes and became a club that seriously looked like playoff contenders. But still the fans were not happy people said that ‘Pulis had money but wouldn’t spend it’ and ‘Coates made him act’ Whatever the case may be we were a force to reckoned with last year and looked like we could make it but as we all know we failed at the final hurdle.
So to this season, it again started with us not being able to bring in any players and it looked very much like we’d struggle with the sale of key players and the inability to bring anyone in. However after a couple of months things started to fall into place and to be hones we haven’t looked back. The football has improved and style of play is mixed. But still when we loose its Pulis fault and when we win well’ he shouldn’t have been playing’
But the fact is I feel we are lucky…. Lucky to have someone who despite the stick seems to like this club and be on a personal mission to stay until we are in the premier… Lucky that Pulisball has increased average attendances at the club to the highest in years… and lucky that with 7 games to go WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE…
My aspiration is that we can become a tope tier club again and it CAN happen at the end of this season. Lets stop the constant ‘mama doesn’t score enough’ or ‘Why’s Creswell on the wing’ the fact is that love him or loath him with seven games to go Tony Pulis has got Stoke to 5 wins away from dreamland.
Let’s stop the moaning and negativity after one draw (although we didn’t turn up) at Watford. Because 10 man or not do you think Man Utd would take a point at Arsenal it’s the same difference.
Let’s put everything to bed and pass good vibes at EVERY remaining game.
I BELIEVE DO YOU????
