Most teams have a spell or two of playing poorly during a season. In our case we have still managed to pick up points, where, coincidentally, the competition have wobbled. I.E Saturday......
I would rather have had our bad spell by now, with the associated wake up calls, have Fuller and Lawrence to come back fresh, and Riggot and Bothroyd wanting to prove several points...........
not to mention a possible additional striker!!
having said this though, we do need to start to take the game to teams, particularly at home.......
I believe!!!!

Time to see if the squad is good enough now, doesn't matter how the results come now, i'll take a scrappy 1-0 win every week !!! Gallagher has to play up front from now on though as i think if we need something out of the ordinary he's our man. Hopefully we'll get the best out of Boothroyd too as a Dingle at work has just told me he's easily Prem class on his day but only turns it on when he feels like it or if he's playing for a contract.

I'm all for looking forward, ut I've tried it for the last four games and it hasn't done a lot of good.
If we want to go up automatically then we have to start looking like a team that deserves it and not just relying from results elsewhere to stay there.
TP and the players have achieved so very much this season that I want us to get the job finished. We all know there will be hiccups along the way but we've now got to kick and start to look the part.

Indeed, Smudge, you can get away with playing badly and picking up points only for so long. Eventually you have another QPR-style drubbing on your hands.
We must go out to try to dominate teams, at least in our remaining home games. Win all 4 of those and the odd draw or defeat away from home may not prove detrimental to our chances of getting into the top two.
We cannot afford TP crawling back into his defensive shell (like the last game of last season) - there were worrying signs of his doing so in Saturday's team selection. Let's hope it is not repeated.

playing badly and picking up points.............Lawrenson and co. get their cocks out when they use that comment on match of the day, they love saying it about Man U etc - the sign of champions is to play poorly and still grind out a result.
Its ours to lose now in my opinion.
Remember whenwe won the old Div 2 in 93, we had a real wobble late on the in season losing some home games before we eventually clinched it.

"playing badly and picking up points is the sign of a good side" Is exactly what my workmate said when we were discussing the weekends football. (He's been a ST holder at Spurs for 40 years so not sure how valid his opinion is!!) As Smudge said, hopefully for the rest of the season we will now see that 'good side' and pick up even more points but playing well!!

Well done, Smudge. That is exactly the point. The ability is out there on the pitch. It is up to Pulis to give it full rein and bring us automatic promotion.

Two observations. Didn't go to the Watford game, but accept Stoke were poor.
BUT, before the game, and after TP stated that he'd played 3 strikers to have a real go at Watford. He didn't want to get penned into defending deep. Now OK, it happened, and maybe the team ddn't gel, but you can't accuse TP of retreating into a defensive shell with those tactics.
Second, the team has overachieved this season, and it might be a case of hanging on to where we are on the run in. Until recently, the team virtaually picked itself, and we've been lucky with injuries and suspensions. Now we have a couple of new faces filling in, and it might not happen straightaway.
Get through the next couple of games. Win on Sat (yet another hard game, almost with a new side) and don't get beat at Wednseday.
Then with Mama, Ricardo and Liam all back and refreshed, we will see the job through.
I want to see good football too, but at certain times and under certain circumstances, they've just got to dig in sometimes.

I think he will revert to type for the last games of the season. it's what he knows and trusts. tp will have a points total in mind and it wouldn't surprise me for him to treat these last few games very cagily in the belief that it is the best way to guarrantee a certain points haul.

It hasn't been great over the last few weeks but I am prepared to take the points over performances as long as big changes are made during the summer (and I'm sure there will be). I can't say we are any worse (or better come to that) than anyone else in our division, in fact one of the few things that can set us apart is our uncanny knack of picking up points. In truth nobody in the top four looks like going out on a high with all guns blazing (so much so some of the lower placed teams are getting a sniff of a chance), so if that is the case it may as well be us limping over the line than falling at the final hurdle. It would be great to look solid and assured over the next seven games but we know it won't happen, we'll probably still be nervously looking on at Colchester and at the Brit against Leicester but that's the end of season finale for you. The main thing is (and it isn't a blinkered view it is realistic IMO) is that we simply HAVE to do it by hook or by crook, once we get there we can discuss the merits of who to bring in and how we can set about staying in the Prem, but not until. I'd love us to smoke a few teams by four or five before May but in my heart of hearts a few scrappy 1-0's will do just as well. Go on Stoke.

Couldn't agree more at this stage of the proceedings but Saturday's game ended 0-0 and against 10 men for 70 minutes of the match. Why settle for one point when three were there for the taking?

Totally agree Jamo, remember August / September with the likes of Matteo and Parkin now thats when we really did over achieve. We were up there getting results but not playing particularly well football wise and as TP said at the time the workrate was A1. Then we had October to February with a mixture of cracking footy, a never say die attitude with end to end games and it was corking, thoroughly deserving to be top (and still do, 39 games gone). Then the blip, and they are just about finding their feet again, I'l take any result over performance with 7 games left, it would be great to see the swagger and self belief back and a few tonkings to boot. Injuries / suspensions / nerves whatever TP has got to rally the troops, and make them believe, and I know he can do this. So close, so so close we can smell it.
