I have to be careful
it seems my last few posts about 'Engerland' have been wheeled or binned
People know what I think already
but - I'll pose this one
We've taken a number of high profile players plainly, seriously worn out or carrying injuries or, have been injured for significant parts of the season.
That picture of them on the aeroplane steps was to me - like a 'whos who' of crocked players ''
And Rio didnt even manage the entire first training session !
so in the spirit of honest discussion - you tell me
incompetent - or just plain unlucky ?
discuss

Capello bottled it.
He should have taken the most in form players. Instead he just took the big names.

true - the only thing he got right was ditiching that useless overrated headless chicken Walcott right at the death
every time I see the likes o Stuart Pearce and Ray Clemence walking just off camera shot with big England 'fat salaried smiles'
for what are (after their playing careers) - completely useless bastards
it says a lot to me

The real factor isn't that Rio had to leave....that happens to all sides. It's that his replacement hasn't hardly played for England at all exposing the lack of strength in depth.
IMHO FabCap picked the best players. That there is so few to choose from isn't his fault.

I wonder if players are overtrained. They are trained to be top class athletes, but the athletes do not have physical contact, they just run. There are far more injuries these days than ever there used to be. They need to be fit but strong as well.

Desperate is the word I would use A fixed idea of who should play that is not based on current form (ie Ferdinand, Barry, James, Upson) Has Ferdinand ever been fit in the last 3 months? If you need a goal would you trust Heskey above Bent? Despite all the games in recent years who is our first choice goalkeeper?

Well with a bit of luck the sun will come up tomorrow and i will wake to see it, and after the world cup is done and dusted, whether it Rio or Dawson, King or god knows who, and if we win or not ......i know one thing for certain........ is that my life will change in exactly no way because of any of it.......

Ferdinand getting injured has immeasurably improved England's chances . He has clearly not been the player he was for the past 2 years and has reverted to dirty tactics to try to convince us otherwise (Witness his fore arm smash on Craig Fagan of Hull last season). I, for one, am much happier with a fit and in form Michael Dawson in the squad.

unlucky, incompetent and over rated. Ever since the hype has started about the tournament, Capello has looked less and less like the main man - his rating system, contract negotiations, squad picking, the choosing of injured/out of form players, no game time for some, the ditching of the 7 from 30 all smacks of amateurishness.
There seems very little between inexperienced, unproven players (Dawson, Milner)and those at their last world cup
