Anyone ever stopped in the Sneyd Arms in Tunstall? and if so what was it like? I've only drunk and played darts in there a few times. Got me mother in law and father in law coming up from Norfolk to visit us in August and they need somewhere close by and not too expensive to stop for a few nights. Anyone recommend anywhere? Cheers Oh and theres no chance of them kipping at ours cos we just dont have the room.

Had a few family gatherings there over the last few years, tables of 20 or more and the food is always good eating and great value. My brothers stayed in the hotels at festival park, moat house I think, you can normally get some god bargains on weekends when there isn't any business people staying. Think he paid about £50 a double room B&B

Cheers Northwich. Moat House would be ideal cos its only 5 mins from us but i think its probably gonna be too expensive. I like the Sneyd Arms as a pub (is it still run by Maureen Flowers and her sons Mark and Craig?) but totally unsure whats its like stop there.
Its my in laws first ever visit to Stoke-on-Trent and i want them to be impressed, though i think theyre in for a culture shock cos they basically live in the middle of nowhere on the edge of Thetford Forest.

just a suggestion but 2 in-laws of mine (both from overseas and quite picky) enjoyed it here, opposite Cauldon College / Hanley Park, yeah, I know, not brilliant surroundings but ................ www.kenwoodguesthousestoke.co.uk/Also the Borough Arms hotel, Basford, tends to be popular with the older set 'cause it's very traditional. Another in-law enjoyed the Plough Motel, Campbell Road - food is very good there.

"Its my in laws first ever visit to Stoke-on-Trent and i want them to be impressed" ;D You wont impress them by making them stay in Tunstall mate.Honestly. You pay for what you get.I would pretend I lived somewhere else.

Yeah but rather Tunstall than having them stop in Burslem mate Sneyd Arms seems ok and is only 5 mins from us in Smallthorne.

Stayed there myself about 3 years ago. Maureen still runs it but i think it's up for sale?
Anyway, the rooms are ok for the price they were a little old fashioned in terms of style when I stayed there but you do get what you pay for. Full english brekkie aint bad either.

I lived in Mundford for 6 months with missus and in laws 5 years ago. Worked at Bowes Abbatoir in Watton and at a little stint at Banham Poultry in Attleborough. I struggled though and got incredibly homesick so moved back to Stoke. I love Norfolk and West Suffolk and spending time down that way but living down there is a differrent matter. Totally different way of life. I was actually down in Hunstanton this time last week, so if anyone saw a lanky bloke with a Stoke home shirt on in either Hunstanton or Sheringham it was me!

I'm hoping to move back to the homeland (or just outside) myself at some stage, been away 30 years now, a few obstacles in my way at the moment tho'.

The Rudyard Hotel is a good call if it's not too far away for you. Mr Wheeze, the coast road from Hunstanton to Cromer is the nicest coastal stetch in the country.Thornham, Cley, Brancaster, etc are fantastic. It's a bit le stange in Hunstanton though

It's a bit le stange in Hunstanton though I agree with nearly all of that apart from the bit about Hunstanton. Love the place, and great if you have small children like we have. Wells-next-Sea is superb. Love the beach there which you can catch that little train to. Sheringham is great too. (havent been to Cromer yet) Like you say, that coast road is a fantastic drive through all the little villages. Its handy having my missus family living down that way. My missus's grandad lives in Ashill which is about 5 miles south of Swaffham.

Apologies Mr Wheeze but I thought you'd get the joke. Hunstanton is one of the most wonderful resorts in England and I agree with your sentiments entirely. The first time I stayed in Hunstanton(pre kids) was at the Le Stange arms hotel situated at the bottom of the town in Old Hunstanton. Fantastic hotel where you walk straight from the lawns into the sand dunes. The Le Stange family were the lords of the manor in Hunstanton, hence my feeble attempt at a joke ;D
