My Mother worked in the Dawlish Road Post Office for a few years. I seem to remember the Sub Postmaster was Mr Frost. Very busy Office ! They owned the laundrette as well! Now you mention it, that is correct.

Don’t know what was going through his mind but my Dad had a part time job as a repayments collector on Bentilee Estate for a money lender up Anlee. I would often join him after school on Friday evenings when he did this door to door collections. Never had any trouble though and he used to say that if they didn’t pay their weekly repayment it was their problem.

Fruit & veg shop at the end chap👍 Wasn't there a hairdressers in the bit where Tiko was? I think it was next door Ely, either to the left or right and I am sure Tiko was there until the end? Used to love walking in there as a child in the 70s the smell from the pies and sausage rolls was devine, and also they made the best vanilla slice fact😊, also there was a very attractive older woman... Probably in her 30s whom I always fancied and I wasnt even a teenager then! I used to go to school with the girl that owned the hair salon it before it was demolished, Debbie Gibson if I remember right and the salon was called Debbie's??

I agree re the Tiko smell, and I think that's where I got my love of vanilla slices from Pretty sure I remember the attractive older lady too! Think I remember Debbies too, the period where they knocked it down and rebuilt the new one was a period I didn't get back much through work etc. I vaguely remember the portakabin shops but not much else about the transitional period.

That's very similar to my experience those slices were amazing. The tall lady from behind the counter from what I remember had a son a little bit older than me and I am sure they lived on the berryhill/Tiverton side of dividy... I could be wrong I must admit I don't remember much of the transitional period either but that was because I spent most my time either drinking or football and it's mostly hazy 😊 Edit... Now you mention it I remember the portakabins This thread is bringing back so many memories 👍
