I didn't live there but I went to Hanley High School for 5 years in the late 60's/early 70's. Used to catch the number 96 bus from Longton and either get off at Twigg Street or up Beverley Drive. At that time the estate was fairly well looked after but there seemed to be quite a few rough looking sorts knocking about and a few of the houses were boarded up for what seemed like months at a time with loads of rubbish, old sofas, cookers, fridges and stuff dumped in their gardens. I remember a couple of the houses up Dawlish Drive had old cars on bricks in their front gardens and they never moved during the whole time I went to school.
I was really good mates with one lad in my class who lived on Bentilee. There was another one though who seemed to want to fight with every one in the school and he eventually got expelled. A few years after leaving school I went out with a girl who lived on Bentilee, turned out she lived next door to the lad who had been expelled, and he had "graduated" to prison for GBH.

As someone who grew up there I have great memories and a lot of fondness for the place, I learned a long time ago not to worry about the stigma that some attach to the place. Anyhow, Bentilee library are inviting submissions for a possible book from current or former residents, just a bit of personal history I think is what they're after and memories of how it used to be. My mums been there near enough since it was built and I honestly don't think she'd live anywhere else, same with my Dad when he was alive. Standing by for the inevitable witticisms and hilarious (if wrongly spelled ;D) comments from lord eff

Lived on Ubberley from 1952 to 75 Married a girl that lived by the bus stop on that first clip It’s got a bad reputation now but I loved my childhood and early adult years there. Football on the Green by the shops ( jumpers for goalposts), Harold Clowes community centre, Berry Hill WMC, Spring Cottage Pub, Happy days

Some RAF spokesman 'many of the UFO sightings are probably genuine' - well they never came back! Don't know whether that was down to them not existing in the first place or the reception they got If they'd gone in the Bush they'd have never come out, not until they'd been sold anyway

Johns barbers in that row of shops up by the waggon and horses My local mate played football for the Wagon Sunday morning. Hair cut many times in John's too, used to scare the shit out of me when he lit the burning wicks things to get the straggling hairs.

There used to be a chap I knew that swore the waggon team of old was one of the greatest that ever played Sunday mornings. He was a heavy drinker that liked to get romantic over a pint of top hat

My dad had a ding-dong in Bentilee in the 60’s. Nearly lost an eye! Plenty of people had ding-dongs mate difference was it was with a fist fight very few incidents where weapons were used. The winch was notorious when I was a lad, they they built the man o clay and it kind of mixed us up a bit so you get to meet and it became less scary going different pubs after that.

I used the Candlesticks for that, could rarely get any peace in a pub on the estate Good footballer was John, I think he played for a team my Dad managed up Penkhull when he was young.

The sterilised milk man - (I mean the milk was sterilised not the man) the insurance man, the telly man, the bread man, the sweet van. Seems like everything used to come to the door.

The pools man, shopacheck man, provident check man, rent man, then you had the women wanting their catalogue money. I spent so much time answering the door for my parents Fridays at tea time I often thought of sticking a chair there We were comparitively well off too, both my folks worked full time.

I remember playing Willfield at rugby in a evening game (the only time we ever played in the evening), we got thrashed, but were not beaten to death after, as we feared!

Went Berry Hill high school late 70's early 80's so knew a fair few from Bentilee. Great days. Cloweses disco on a Friday night was our first foray into trying to pull girls! Christmas Cloweses was a snog fest!😊

I played rugby for Berryhill there, local 'derby', we were in more danger from the spectators on the touchline than the players on the pitch Can't have been that bad, I don't remember the police being called
