Tony Pulis publicly confirmed his interest in Portsmouth striker David Nugent for the first time this afternoon.Stoke have been tracking the Pompey misfit for some weeks as they seek a proven goalscorer to see them over the promotion finishing line.
And today Pulis said: "We have made inquiries about Nugent, but from now on I think the best thing to do is to talk to Portsmouth.
"If it's on, it's on. If it's not, it's not.
"We have people like Paul Gallagher on the bench who can create and score, but that final third will be important as the season goes on."
Nugent looked set to join Ipswich last week after a deal had been agreed with Portsmouth, but his on-going recovery from a recent hernia operation appeared to put a spoke in the wheels ahead of the move falling through.
Pulis said late decisions would be made on both defender Leon Cort and striker Mama Sidibe before finalising his line up at Watford on Saturday.
The squad set off for Hertfordshire after lunch this afternoon as Pulis seeks a steady build-up for players subjected to away trips to Norwich and Watford this week.

It's about time we stopped talking and started acting. The addition of an extra goal-scorer at this stage would make promotion even more likely.

Let's hope this goes through sooner rather than later. It will also hopefully give Fuller the boot in the arse he so desperately needs right now.
Goaarrrn Nugent.

"If it's on, it's on. If it's not, it's not."
We must know now what package they're looking for, if he wants to come, how fit he is, and when he could start figuring.
So which is it?

Pulis rarely comes out publicly and says one specific player hes having talks with so hopefully hes confident of Nugent signing.

We need to either bring him in or move on to another target pronto.
A new striker would be just the boost we needed for the last few games, with Mama carrying a knock and Ricardo with a suspension looming.

I'm glad to see we realise the need to actually speak to Portsmouth, as the players club, if we are actually interested in this guy!
oh yeah, spud, remember we were very publicly told that we were "trying very hard" to sign Marlon Harewood a few weeks back, so your theory here is very suspect! However no smoke without fire etc etc. Probably sign ready for next home game.

[glow=red,2,300]"The squad set off for Hertfordshire after lunch this afternoon."[/glow]
No signings in time for this weekends game then.
[glow=red,2,300]"If it's on, it's on. If it's not, it's not." [/glow] sounds like we're being messed around like ipswich were

If we're going to be paying all his wages for every week he spends here , maybe we're keen to only take him on when he's been back in full training for a while and ready to start contributing?
Maybe the loan fee they'll be able to demand will come down week-on-week as well.

I would say that just because they have set off to the team hotel does not necessarily mean that he won't join in time. Lawrence made his debut at Hull after joining the previous evening.

"If it's on, it's on. If it's not, it's not."
My interpretation of this is that we are obviously keen but getting mixed messages from Portsmouth and he's getting pizzed off - Magilton style.
