Looks like Gretna are in serious financial trouble. Here's another club that have spent money they didn't have in the quest for success. Now their rich investor is ill it looks like they will slip back down the leagues quicker than they went up them. It's a shame for their fans. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/g/gretna/7291519.stm

They won't slip down the leagues, they will just fold A sad end to an incredible story Read their history- it makes for interesting reading: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gretna_F.C.

No- I saw them the other week against Hibs and they were pretty poor. Their best player was Jon Paul Kissock but he's on loan from Everton
'Legend' Kenny Deuchar got out before the ship sank- he has gone over to the States

They're a funny club Gretna. There is truly not a lot of sympathy for them over the border, they were always onto a loser. Few fans, own ground a shithole in a village miles from anywhere. SPL Ground sharing 90 miles away in Motherwell whose pitch is a ruin and lots of fixtures postponed due to bad weather costing money The single person bankrolling them at a big loss every week smokes 120 fags a day and is at death's door with a brain disease. Disliked for buying their way into the league whe Airdrieonians folded (albeit Airdrie bought Clydebank and did the same to them) Loads of players already laid off last season. As popular as Rupert Murdoch buying Droylsden and going all the way pinching the pick of the players in each division on the way to the Premiership... By the time they were promoted they had a squad that would struggle in the Scots first division and only their big poitns lead stopped them being caught by St Johnstone. Rumour had it that Mileson's money was already running out then... Mileson's family hates the fact that their inheritance is being pissed up the wall at Gretna and are probably relieved he's so ill. Also, half the kit and the players pre packed dinners were nicked from the club overnight too. Talk about the roof falling in! Living the dream but dying in a nightmare- just rank mismanagement, poor business plan and all their eggs in one basket!

Would we be in similar trouble if Coates Carked it? I agree with Knowlesy. We'd be in a bit of a similar position, but not in as much trouble. Other members of Papa's family own the holding company which owns SCFC; as far as I know only old-man Mileson owns any shares in Gretna. So we would be left with owners; where as Gretna have no one. What our owners would then do is another matter - The holding company must be making some hefty loans to the football club (scfc ltd) to keep us in cash-flow at the minute; whether that would continue, if Papa departed, is open to debate (if you want) ah

They could then sell us as a debt free premiership team! ;D Or are we just a loss making part of their business that means they pay less tax which in effect means we are free to run? I wish someone would explain all this to someone as thick as me! Lets have a mass debate!
