Presuming that he gets a couple of starts now that our attacking wide player is out (and that is a big presume), will he have the quality and perseverance to show that he's a worthy replacement? Lawrence works so hard it will be a difficult act to follow, but in terms of delivery, skill and shooting we should be ok.
What do you think? Lawrence is probably the only player not to have an abusive thread aimed at him this year...

In Lawrence's absence, you'd think we'd have to replace his creativity somehow; and he seems the obvious fit to replace him on the right.
And he showed he was well able to be productive from the wide areas in the Championship in 2005-6.
But will Pulis go for Delap-Whelan-Diao-Pugh/Cresswell?

Put it this way, I am much happier having Gally here as a replacement for Lawrence than I would've been with the alternatives if we hadn't got him in.
Gally has got good reviews from the reserve games and is a quality player. He will up for the chalenge and will rise to it. This is his chance to prove he is a worthy addition to the squad and worth a full contract if/when we get promoted.
I hope.

Didn't Pulis pretty much say that Gally would be stepping in for Lawrence?

Gally needs to start though for my liking. Or get Demar on the pitch! Cue abuse! ;D

+ Sidibe is a doubt for Saturday so perhaps Cresswell will be upfront anyway?
Diao needs to be on the bench now.

A welcome change me thinks. Lawrence has been fairly quiet the past few games (couldnt comment on the Norwich match?) and was pretty non-existent at the QPR game. Gallagher will be itching to get in the side and give some competition - especially if he wants to play for us in the Premiership next season A bit of competition is always good and will hopefully mean that Lawrence wont get too complacent following his player of the month award and do the job in the last 7 games...

He really needs to be out left once LL is back though.

Or even De Laet at right wing. Gives Griffin cover in trhe same way he prefered Hoefkens at right wing in big away games last season, has pace to burn, loves taking people on, is an unknown player to Watford and is playing consistantly well for the reserves

York,
Your statement "Lawrence has been fairly quiet the past few games"
The last 2 home games Lawrence has easily been Stoke's best player, scoring a screamer against Ipswich and holding his nerve to snatch the equaliser against boring boring Burnley. He's also going past his defender regularly now. He looks to me like our key player at the moment, but maybe I am missing something.

ods2 I agree with you re Lawrence's pivotal role.
On the other hand having him come back refreshed and raring to go with 6 games to go might be pretty good, providing we can get 4 points while he's gone...
Haven't we been lucky with injuries this year? Apart from Matteo, and Sidibe's arm, have we had any long-term knocks to first team regulars? Famous last words, but considering Cresswell and Fuller came as risky investments (failed medicals or whatever), and Delap was returning from a career threatening injury, it's not bad is it?

APB,
I can't say enough about Liam this season. He's got better as the season's gone on, his set pieces have improved, he's scoring, and that trick he has where he goes inside and past his man into the box just wasn't there last season.
Must be the most improved player in the league.

Unless Fuller starts a run of 8 hat-tricks on Saturday, LL is a nailed on club player of the season across the board isn't he?
Have they already done the writers and players awards for the division?
Shawcross would appear to be a fairly safe bet for our young player too.

I think Gally's up to the challenge, and should link up with Delap, Whelan and Pugh in midfield.
Surely even TP has seen that Diao's not fit and worth a place in the staring line-up. It will surely demoralise Gally if he sees a below-form Diao start again while he warms the bench.

Just saying that he had poor away games against Preston and QPR but I dont know how well he did against Norwich..? I am looking forward to Gallagher starting

Gally's seem up for it when I saw him at Preston and QPR. Although the midfield will be
Delap Diao Whelan Cresswell
with Dicko being dropped for Pugh at LB:(

Martin Spinks seems to take it as read that the personnel change will be Whelan for Lawrence?
Glenn Whelan returns from a two-match ban to replace Liam Lawrence as the 14-goal winger begins an identical suspension tomorrow.
If Mama doesn't make it with this hamstring injury, maybe:
Nash Griffin-Cort-Riggott-Dickinson Delap-Diao-Whelan-Pugh Fuller-Cresswell
Quite what it'll take for Gallagher to get a start is anyone's guess.

It does appear that Gallagher is destined to be a sub for the rest of the campaign, with Pulis viewing him as a twenty minute man, in either midfield or up front depending on circumstances.
Surely he should start tomorrow as he will give us that little bit extra quality we will miss without Liam. It looks like Pulis is setting us up for a 0-0, but what a difference it would make to our prospects if we could bring back a win.
Fortune favours the brave 'n' all that.

Oh how how's love to see a midfield of Gally Delap Whelan Phillips tomorrow! More chance of me winning the lottery twice with the pools on the same day with Vale staying up! ;D
