Seeing the article on Stoke-On-Trent songstress Jackie Trent and he husband Tony Hatch 'the Simon Cowell' of his day in Celebrity Supporters in todays Oatcake got me thinking about the song they penned for the 1972 League Cup - We'll Be With You.
Personally I hated it then and I hate it now it's just too damn cheerful a ditty for a football song. Whatever you do with it it comes across all happy-clappy and doesn't lend itself to giving it any volume.
I can't remember anyone (certainly no one under 25) singing it at the time because it was just too embarrassing...
What do you think, should we have just left it in the 70's ?

I think it's our best song when sung by the fans, the recorded version isn't the best though

I used to sing it in the 70s and I still sing it now. I think its rather good that the theme song from "Neighbours" was composed by the same couple who wrote the song we come out to at the start of our games. ;D

Its a bit different - and all the better for that. How many other clubs still sing a 'cup final' song. I can only think of Spurs.

Always loved it.
However one gripe. We sing it too bloody fast. It's got faster and faster as the years have progressed.
I'll bring me drums tomorrow and keep time for you all.

Actually "We'll be with You" is a shite song - but at least it's our shite song as opposed the ubiquitous chants wedged into Two Unlimited or Kumbaya - so sing it with pride!

Went with a guy from Trentham named Sid Rogers. Got more and more "relaxed" as the recording wore on. Good night!

I like the song, and I sang it when I was 14 years old and onwards in the old boothen end at the vic. It's a traditional song, which is sung only by stoke.

Totally agree, it's hard to think of any other song that is absolutely uniquely ours. In my opinion it's without a doubt our best song; it doesn't matter about the tune, it's got a good positive and supportive message and sounds great when we get a good rendition going (which is all too rare).
