if Shawcross gets on the England short list or even the bench, he can be sold for truck loads more money...

Does anyone seriously believe that Ryan will get in the WC squad? He's not even playing for us at the moment. I think he may come back for the last couple of games but those two fixtures aren't too easy are they?

It's obviously not 'nailed on' that he's going but he's obviously in with a shout. He hasn't been dropped due to poor form, it's just an injury. If he comes back and plays 2 or 3 games at least before the end of the season and puts in a few good performances he has a shout IMO. All the hard work he has done to get himself into Capello's thoughts won't just be forgotten because he's missed 3 or 4 through injury. I'm sure Capello will keep any eye on him when he's back. WD

He has lost a hell of a lot of impetus now. He'll probably have to play at least 3 games and do something eye-catching to shake things up
He had to have a real shot on the day of the Arsenal game. Naming him in a pretty 11th hour squad seemed to mean he was really in pole position to at least make the 30-man preliminary squad.
Are they going to take 4 centre-halves, with a 5th in the 30-man squad for the Austrian training camp?
Terry, Ferdinand and Upson (for some reason) look nailed-on. Does the 4th squad place look like maybe Lescott at the moment?
Then the 5th place for the training camp may be between Shawcross, Dawson, Jagielka, Cahill and King?
But Shawcross probably isn't favourite for even that now?

Hopefully, with West Ham's god awful season, Capello can see that Upson simply isn't good enough and Ryan will play enough before the season be in with a decent shout.

Not sure how he knows this info or if it is reliable. Agreed, Terry, Ferdinand and Upson look nailed on and then probably 2 more places. I think if Ryan comes back he has every chance. Some may think it will be difficult with the games we have but I think it actually may work in his favour. If he turns in good performances aginst The Shit or Chelsea then it won't go unnoticed. WD

not me just the big boss may need the capital to invest in the future and this would be by far the best earner, just like some of the team selections not what we always want.

Yes Tom, you are right. An England scout told my cousin at the Stoke v Man City cup game that Shawcross was ahead of Lescott in the pecking order and basically ruled Lescott out of the running for South Africa.
However, alot has changed since then and I highly doubt Ryan will go having not played for such a long time. It's a shame, but hopefully over the next 2 years he can push on even further and maybe even be a regular by the time Euro 2012 comes around?!

I can't see Ryan making the squad at all, given the recent injury. I would guess if King stays fit and doesn't breakdown again!! Fab will wish to take him, although hewould be another injury prone liabaility in a key posistion

Who needs Shawcross for England when we have Lescott and Upson!
Lescott's transfer fee to Citeh still completely amazes me. A solid player, but completely overated at present.

i`m still not convinced by the `injury` to ryan, i`ve a nagging feeling there may still be mental scars from the ramsey leg break incident, i hope not as there`s no guarantee he`ll be the same player.

Ryan HAS been injured, theres no conspiracy
the player has a medium shot of going to SA ,if Lescott IS out (lots of ifs & buts of course)imho Ryan is nailed on to go

If Lescott is as injured as is suggested, it does seem that, based on the Egypt squad, Shawcross would have almost certainly gone....IF the Ramsey business would never have happened and he'd have seen the season out playing as well as he was.
Even so, he's still got to have one hell of a chance if he can get back and playing well for the last 3-4 games as Capello seemed, at the 11th hour and with his final proper squad choice, to have settled on him as the next cab off the rank, ahead of the likes of Dawson.
So, unless in Shawcross' absence, Capello has definitively settled on Dawson or gone back to the fit-again Cahill, he's got to have a good shot of being the 4th choice CB in Lescott's absence, and a really good chance of being in the 30-man preliminary squad.
I can't believe there's any conspiracy, from us or Ferguson, to keep a fit Shawcross out of Premier League football, if only for this reason?
But it'd be massive for him if he can get himself fit..and have an excellent game at Chelsea on TV next week
