Great stuff, he has been our player of the season and if he signs up for a few years it shows our ambition and hopefully he will help us into Europe in the near future

Really hope that we can tie this one up. Been really impressed with Ethers this season. He has amazing skill and his effort can't be faulted. Seems a really down to earth guy as well. I'd love to see him at Stoke for the next few years. Edit - my player of the season as well. C'mon guys n gals get voting for Ethers - let him know how much we want him here.

He has amazing skill? Not for me, he doesn't. Granted, he's been very effective this season and a vital cog in the Stoke wheel, though I'm convinced he's this 'classy' player people seem to bracket him as.
As for 'how much we want him here', the bloke was going absolutely nowhere prior to his move to Stoke.
Still, it's good news about his contract as he plays a vital role in Stoke's ability to counter-attack.

"though I'm convinced he's this 'classy' player people seem to bracket him as. "
Think you might have missed a "not" there Begovic.
So you say he's a vital cog in the Stoke wheel but you're not sure that we should want him to stay?

No. I'm saying that he's a vital cog in the Stoke wheel, though I'm not convinced he's this 'classy' player people seem to bracket him as. What's hard to understand about that?
Clearly it's good news he's nearing a contract extension - he and Fuller are pretty much Stoke's only options in open play - but I don't believe he has 'amazing skill'.

Fantastic management I agree.

Stoke do want him to stay, no question. However, his wages demands should be realistic and there needs to be a consideration of where his career was going prior to his move. Furthermore, although he's a vital player, I'm not convinced he's irreplaceable (like Fuller is).
He's been good for Stoke, but Stoke have been equally as good to him.

Every player is replaceable, even fuller. But matty has been brilliant this season and for anyone to say they arent to "Bothered" really does shock me. www.specsavers.com

well said kitkatkev, there was a mention on the skysports website a few months back (!!!)about new contract talks, i hope he's not holding us to ransom because of his good form. IMO, he owes us partly for getting him out the West Ham mire.

I remember he was not too far away from becoming our new boo-boy at the beginning of the season, there were certainly a few moans and groans. But he has really turned it on this season and one we must keep.

give the guy wages to match the top earners at the club, we really need to hang on to matt, he took a while to get going but he has been outstanding for us this year and i very much doubt we would get another left footed, pacy natural winger for the amount of money we would get for him should he decide to leave, this lads contract should be our number one priority [next to the up-coming fixtures of course] before the summer window opens.
