tinyurl.com/2xhzzw Mirror With the Nugent chase turning into a farce, if he was available (maybe a bit doubtful as he played v Sporting Lisbon last week), surely Pulis would be interested? A Mama who can score who he's on record as being a very big fan of - and with Megson his manager, maybe he'd put a good word in?

Just found this story from 2005 with some quotes from Pulis lavishing praise on him
Pulis targets Helguson deal Friday 20 May 2005
Stoke City boss Tony Pulis has made Heidar Helguson his number one summer transfer target, but fears the Potters will not be able to compete financially with the Watford striker's other suitors.
The Hornets are set to offload the Iceland international after he refused to extend his contract, sparking interest from a number of next season's Championship promotion hopefuls.
Pulis hopes that City's Icelandic owners will stretch the budget to sign their £600,000-rated compatriot, but knows the likes of Leeds United and Wolves will be able to offer more attractive salary packages.
"There is an Icelandic player available in the Championship who would be an absolute sensation at Stoke and I would love to sign him," he told The Sentinel.
"He would be better than what we've got and without doubt he'd be a massive favourite with our supporters because of his ability and commitment.
"But the unfortunate thing is whether we can afford him. That is the big question."
Pulis also confirmed he had spoken to Nils-Eric Johansson's agent about a possible deal for the defender who was released by Blackburn Rovers earlier in the week.

I would be delighted with him, a player who wouldn't change the style of play but who would improve it and actually score goals.
I would ultimately have liked a fox in the box, though that isn't happening anytime soon so Helguson would be a very good signing.

But presumably Coleman signed him for Fulham so more likely to sign for them due to that relationship and Pulis not exactly well liked by Icelanders........

Not all Icelanders hate Pulis, Godo! Probably only one or two out of about 250,000 had a slight dislike of him!

Triggi, Ziggi, Bjarni, Kristinsson and Gislason probably aren't on his Christmas card list.... Surely the decisive thing would be playing in a promotion challenge rather than a relegation scrap? And he could probably commute a lot easier from the N-W for 3 months. He seems to be such a Pulis player. 100% effort, excellent in the air, good record in the Championship.....

FM: I saw Helguson up close last week playing for Bolton Vs Sporting Lisbon, and cannot say I was impressed! However, he may be able to score those 2 or 3 crucial goals, and that will be enough.

Yeah, he hasn't played much this season, has he?
Can't be that sharp, and it's probably tough to be slung into a UEFA Cup game v Sporting Lisbon.
But I suppose that'll be the problem with any striker who'll be available for a loan spell? They'll all be lacking match sharpness.
We can't wait forever for Nugent, can we?

Had made 2 starts prior to that match and had come on 3 times! As you say, any striker we get in, will not be at the top of their game. Pulis needs to make a decision, a bit like what Ipswich did on Nugent, so that we can go after targets B+C+D.
