Shows how much things have changed in 60 years
25/12/50 Arsenal 0-3 Stoke att 38224 ( yes Chriistmas Day ) 26/12/50 Stoke 1-0 Arsenal att 40012 ( yes the next day )
We never played at home on Christmas Day, they used to reckon the Vic was on consecrated ground.
In those days we also played 3 games at Easter. Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday

Just to be pedantic, the Saturday before Easter Sunday is not Easter Saturday, it's called Holy Saturday. Easter Saturday is the Saturday After Easter Sunday.

I hardly ever post at all now, as you can see from my pathetic 2 ( now 3) posts since this "new" version of the board started.
Things are not going well actually, but that's another story

About those two Arsenal fixtures. My dad always reckons that Arsenal thought they were a bit too special to be playing a team like Stoke City over the Christmas period and made their feelings known. I bet it made those two Stoke victories taste even sweeter.

The best Easter memories for me was the promotion season 62/63. Us, Sunderland and Chelsea were fighting for promotion to div 1. We were lucky at Roker Park and our goal had a charmed life. The crowds were fantastic then for Div 2 games.
12/4/63 Sunderland 0-0 Stoke att. 62138 13/4/63 Stoke 1-0 Cardiff att. 30419 15/4/63 Stoke 2-1 Sunderland att. 42366
The 3 Stoke goals were scored by Dennis Violet. The noise at the Vic when Dennis headed the winner on the Monday was so so loud.
