If you get a mileage allowance at work - how much per mile do you get?
We currently get 40p a mile.
I'm pushing for an increase now that petrol is 40 gazillion pence per gallon.

The Revenue's approved mileage allowance is 40p per mile for the first 10,000 miles each tax year and 25p per mile thereafter.
If the company pay you in excess of these amounts, you will need to be issued with a form P11D and will be taxed on the excess over the approved rates.

if some tight arse company only allows you a small amount with a company car, can you claim tax back?

You are entitled to a tax deduction at the levels of the rates above in respect of allowable business mileage travelled in your own car.
If your employer pays below the approved rates, you are entitled to claim the shortfall in the same way that if you are paid in excess of the rates, that amount will be taxable.
Company car rules are different matter.

As a courier I get PAID £6 for anything within 4 miles of collection, then 75p a mile after ................ and thats to earn a living off, and you are moaning that 40p a mile wont cover your motoring costs . ROFLMFAO .... fuck me, I only get paid to drive there, if I get a job london to manchester, I get paid london to manchester, I still have to get back to london, if some one on a mileage allowance drives london to manchester and back, I bet they get their 40p a mile in both directions, so get MORE than I do, and yet I some how manage to run a vehicle and earn a living off it. So yes stokie1000 I have don the fucking maths ;D
