Messi IMO is the best player in the World bar none... He makes it look so easy. As Spit says, IF you cannot appreciate Messi who can you?

Fantastic player but a diving shitrag none the less. Interesting, I watch the La Liga show or live Barca matches nearly every week, but I very rarely see Messi intentionally dive??

Maybe I'm being overly harsh but whenever I've watched him (not very often I must admit) he's always rolling and going over at the drop of a hat. Not as bad as Ronaldo but I really don't like him for it.

Well i suppose they have to rave-up any match showing on prime time televiewing hours. But agree they can really overdo it.

Considering he's only 21 it's quite scary imagining what he could be like when he's matured.

I just hating diving and rolling as it does spoil it somewhat for me but he is still great to watch.

Messi is capable of sheer brilliance, even though i cant stand argentinians. Messi & sergio aguero are very similar to what maradonna was: short, quick, agile & lots of flair. Argentina have a good chance at the world cup with these two up front. They do make things look easy, i suppose has a lot to do with trying to do the unexpected. Could you imagine messi & rooney playing together?

I wonder if Mr Pulis watches and thinks that in a few years Stoke City could play like Barcelona. Or do you think that he thinks his ultra defensive and negative approach is the best way to play and that is the future. Are the seeds of doubt ever sown in his mind? Does he have any ambition to play smooth fluent football?

If you offered me one player for Stoke i'd pick Rooney everytime. Messi is better at what he does than Rooney, but Rooney adds far more to a team single handedly than Messi does and is the perfect footballer, he could play anywhere he wanted to on the field and still be world class at it.

Does he have any ambition to play smooth fluent football? I think if we were able to break off from the premiership TV money system, and bring in massive sums of money (Barca get £60m or more a season for league tv money) after 10 years or so at such an inflated income, I think he might be more willing to go down that avenue. As it stands though, Barcelona made at least twice as much money in TV revenue as we did for everything. As bad as the premier league is for letting money filter lower down, in Spain the newly promoted clubs get an absolute pittance in TV revenues. I'm more than happy playing like we do on our revenue, when we're generating more than £250m a year, I would like to think we are playing some truly scintillating stuff, with players who can beat their man for fun and then put an inch perfect cross into a targetman who has pace, aerial ability and a natural killer instinct infront of goal. I'd say we're about 2 years down in a dream that to get to that point, without major investment, would take at least 20 years to be realised.

Cliffo,
A lot of the Barcelona players come through the ranks, that is why I said in a few years. If Mr Pulis wanted to do it he could change the work aard ethos for one of fluent flowing football without losing a firm backbone.
Stokie1000,
Is this season really an improvement on last. We have still to match last years points total and playing wise I see little improvement. Do you think Mr Pulis wants change the way we play?

In my opinions this season has shown signs of progressing - our away form has improved, we reached our first FA Cup Quarter Final in 38 years and we have never seriously been considered relegation candidates in spite of it being only our second season in the Premier League. How many Premier League teams play this "fluent, flowing football"?

I think we just have to change the ethos by teaching the youngest members of our academy to play a pass and move game similar to how Spurs in the days of Danny Blanchflower and Johnny Haynes, Stoke in the days of Greenhoff and Hudson, The Dutch team of Johann Cruyff and the Barcelona team of today. Stoke and West Ham were known as teams with this footballing ethos but it has to start at the lowest level. This is off the top of my head, I really haven't thought it through and there may be obvious faults. I think all the teams in the top half of the table play better football than us. That really speaks for itself.

Tell me about it, it seems any half decent player that puts on a Barcelona or Brazil shirt on gets creampied by every gormless, sheeplike commentator on TV. What about the other UCL games where he's played like Vincent Pericard with a hangover...
