He is also one of my favourites, alongside the great Jimmy Greenhoff. I met him at Manchester airport last year - he was happy to chat and said that he was gutted to leave Stoke for Cardiff, which helped me with all of those years of pain!!! absolutely lovely chap, and seemed geniunely touched when i said that he was one of my favourites, and would always be a Potters Legend.

I haven't seen him for a good while so I have no idea.
He's usually training at Bradford when I'm twatting about on the running machines.
In his heart of hearts, I think he knew that he would struggle to get another season in as was - it was McCall who wanted him to play on.

Absolute legend. I can remeber his goals in that chesterfield game. The best two i reckon are his one at home to wigan when he nicked the ball off a player at the halfway line and bust down to the penalty area & slotted it under the keeper & defo his goal at wembley to give us our '2ND Autoglass Trophy' I also got him to sign my flag when they brought the trophy back to the britannia celebrations!

Didn't his old man write to Stoke or the Oaty saying how much Thorney appreciated the standing ovation he got when he twatted us for Cardiff, and how much he genuinely loved the club? I'm sure I remember something like that? H You are right RAF someone did. I was mightily impressed with PeterThorne when he scored that hat trick and also, it has to be said, our treatment of him as he did it. It was a marriage made in heaven. Thorney is a Stoke legend and i consider myself privelidged to have seen him play in the red and white www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=25451001731#!

Many years a Stokie. Seen all sorts come and go. Thorney will always have a special place in my heart. Played the game like it should be played, and a perfect sportsman. Really one of our greats. A gent to go with it off the field.
