I think Villa were a real credit today.
Wasn't it lovely to see a big club, with genuine top 4 aspirations come and play the game in totally the right spirit? They got straight up after any tough challenges, never surrounded the ref and just got on with the task at hand.
They took a fair old bombardment from our set plays but they defended them as well as anyone since we got promoted. Collins and Dunne were immense. Martin O Neill (and Pulis for that matter) is someone Arsene would do well to watch and learn from. You can build successful sides and keep a bit of dignity and class.
Add in the fact that James Milner was so good to Ryan the other week in the England camp, I would go as far to say that Villa are my favourite visiting club this season.
As for us, well a really good effort against a top team. We continue to develop very nicely indeed. Not felt this positive after a goalless draw for a long time.

Proper football match played in the right fashion. No posing or ponsing around. Credit due to both teams but we really had the chances to win it.
Pleased with the game and result all round.

It was a good, competitive English game of football played by two teams who have the utmost respect for each other.

Yes, indeed. A refreshing game played by two teams in the spirit of the game, competitive, physical, entertaining, and a credit to both clubs. Shame we couldn't sneak a goal though!

Yes...a game played in the right spirit, albeit lacking real chances.
I think that spirit is a reflection of the two managers ethos and the honesty they expect from their players.
It might not have been the most exciting game, but I enjoyed watching two really solid defences "work their socks off".

Don't forget they tried (and suceeded) to pinch yards every time they had a throw in.

I have always admired Martin O'Neill. A very honest man who is very enthusiastic, a bit like our Tone really and they have a mutual respect for each other. As Mr. Notherchance says Arsene Whinger could learn a lot from these two with regard to honesty and dignity.

Like Villa, MON, and Villa fans. Good game today. Good, honest English style football, although perhaps lacking the Arsenal spirit and finesse. Smiley!

Totally agree Mr Notherchance. I like Villa and thought they defended brilliantly today! I can see why Pulis was after James Collins! Stoke were very solid today; we have really made progress this season. Bring on Spurs!

probably because martin o'neill is so similar to pulis. how often do you see either manager moan about something. they're both honest and concentrate on making their own teams good rather than moaning about others.

MON was raised on the Brian Clough philosophy that you don't cheat or argue with the ref and it's a credit to him that it shone through today and I think that the continued love-in between the two managers helps Wouldn't you just love it if Villa got 4th. Nicest ground in the Prem as well.

Agree with the original post and its no surprise that both clubs involved are managed by british managers with the right ideas on how the game should be played.
No cheating or diving in particular, no whining to the ref, I enjoyed it.
Stoke are going places evenly mixing it with teams like this

Completely agree. A proper game of football played exactly in the spirit it was supposed to be played in. I've nothing but respect for O'Neill as a manager and for the side that he's built. Richard Dunne in particular was absolutely superb for them, for a big (!) guy he did a very good job of dealing with Fuller's pace, forcing him out wide.

I thought it was a proper game of football, no diving about, no surrounding the ref, No cheating, moaning or any cuntiness. Some good hard challenges and its good to see a club doing well with so many english players. Downing isn't as good as etherington though.
If anyone deserved to win then i'd say us just but a draw was the fair result.

Villa are by far my favourite Premiership team, obviously discounting Stoke. Even before the likeable O'Neill took charge, I quite liked them, based on the fact that they were once genuine challengers to Man Utd for the title (my enemy's enemy is my friend are rivals to the Blue Brum scum, and have a rather nice kit as well. Plus I can't think of any players they've ever had who have been real cunts. Would love to see them do Chelsea in the cup and get the 4th Champions league spot.

Did anyone notice the reaction of the two managers when Milner got booked for his challenge on Rory?
It was a sight to behold. Both of them abused the 4th official for a ridiculous booking and laughed at each other as a result.
Pulis and MON seemingly have a lot of time for each other.
I thought that they were poor today (oustanding at the back though) and Carew was pretty much unplayable at times, but I like Villa. They are very similar to us, but have better players and subsquently are able to sustain their form more consistently than we do.
There is much to like about them and as bad as their fans have been when we have visited Villa Park, their two away followings have been very good.
I like Villa. I like MON. I like the honesty of most of their team. I can't stand Young and Warnock though who are both seemingly horrible little fuckers. (You have to have someone to abuse in every opposition line up ;D)

to be honest i wasn't sure about the Milner booking. i thought he must've said something to the ref for it because it wasn't a booking for the challenge.
