Remember The Beest getting sent off against them in the last home game of the 91/92 season as we lost 0-1 to put the final nail in the coffin of our auto promotion hopes you are showing your age there Dave, is it Carl Beeston I take it? We endend up in Jono's for the pompey match fella, Turned out a good night. Of course its Carl, yep Jono's is pretty good, i never even made it out my front door, the big thumb was placed on my head

The "existing" club no longer exists so it cannot have applied to join the welsh league. The new fan-owned phoenix club hasn't yet made an application, but when it does, I very much doubt whether it will be to the welsh league.
Of course, there should be greater wealth distribution down the leagues, but the main problem with Chester is Stephen Vaughan and his family, who should have been prevented from re-entering football by more effective regulatory tests.
In fact, the winding-up is a relief, because it removes Vaughan from the equation. The new AFC Chester will start a few leagues down, be run on a proper basis, just like FC United, AFC Wimbledon, AFC Telford etc etc and their fans will enjoy the experience.

The will probably start in the unibond south division like AFC Halifax or failing that the north west counties, either way i dont think the real Chester fans will let the club die. I remember Scarborough went bust and retarted as Scarborough Athletic in the North East Counties division and are getting good crowds. Admittedly there home games are in Bridlington but at least they got there club going again en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarborough_Athletic_F.C.

A city the size of Chester should have football League team - and a damn prosperous one as well. Another example of the crazy, crazy world of soccer financing. Chester City RIP! It's very sad. I do wonder how many local people actually supprted Chester though and what sort of crowds they attracted. The problem with Chester is it's got a large population of Scouse/Mancs/AN Others whose football allegiances lie elsewhere. I think Warrington is actually bigger than Chester, but their footie (Warrington Town) team is someway down the leagues as well - for that same reason + a lot of locals follow rugby.

Nic, I doubt whether the good folk of Chester are any different from the people of even smaller Wigan and Burnley who've benefit from a wealthy benefactor (Wigan) and careful management (Burnley). The progress of both the above has been reflected in the increased number of fans through the turnstiles and I dare say the same may have happened at Chester given the right circumstances.
