The biggest problem for fans is that most people have never been in a situation where a policeman is threatening you with a baton for nothing more than saying you want to go in a direction they dont want you to go! Can you imagine a shopper wanting to go into M.S being threatened with arrest unless they go into Boots? Sounds pathetic but I have been hit with a baton and arrested in the past for stepping off a pavement at Brum !The police later apologised but that didn,t help on the day!Until we,as fans ,say enough is enough then things will carry on as they are.

Most people regard Sky as the demise of British football but what they have done is bring families and professional people to football, particularly away matches. Up to probably the mid to late 90's the majority of away supporters were made up of young working class males, added to the equation Maggie Thatchers self titled "storm troopers" any person who found themselves at the wrong end of a police truncheon and a court appearance stood no chance of a fair trial. male arrested at football, automatically guilty.
Only now with the advent of mobile phones with cameras are the general public seeing the true face of large parts of their Police force. Unfortunately for most people on this board we've had to endure 20 or 30 years of this service.
Every supporter in the land owes a great deal to Malcolm and the rest of the FSF.

I agree Mark. I was involved when it was the FSA and it was painfully frustrating to persuade people to get involved and do anything. People would tell me about incidents of police brutality and when I asked them to report it they said they couldn't be bothered. Sometimes it's hard to get people to do somthing as simple as take down a policemans number for future reference. Before one game we handed out 2,000 leaflets highlting the campaign opposing all seater stadiums. Every single person we spoke to agreed with us about all seater stadiums and many were disgruntled. BUT not one person was prepared to take any action to demonstrate or show opposition. When people bemoan the loss of terraces now I just roll my eyes. LJT made a reccomendation and nothing was set in stone.

There are some bizarre comments below the article. It seems there is just as big an effort needed to eductate the Great British Public as there is to educate the Police. Keep up the good work Malc.
