Man City fans have been asking for the astroturf's removal for some time apparently.Players slip on the surface and it was only a matter of time before somebody was injured Stoke should contact the Health and Safety about this as if they are found liable, some compensation may be in order. His knee twisted as he contacted the slippery surface and it is an obvious danger to the players.

Should be at least 1 metre of real turf round the touch line if you ask me. He deffo slipped more because of the astroturf!

Too bloody right this thread- its obvious the change in surface caused the injury
look at chelseas pitch too - its actually inside the goals just over the dead ball line
should NOT be allowed !

Their AstroTurf looks right gypo too. Looks like they nicked it from hanley park astro pitches. With all the money they got the could remove or at least changed

I noticed that before the game even kicked off, the toucline by the dug outs is immediatley astroturf after the white line. Thought that it made the line look less defined and cluttered and I said a player doing a sliding tackle would get nasty arse burns if he went over.

I made a similar comment to my mate. It was half in jest but to be honest it is a valid point. The astro turf is about 0.5m from the touchline and the change in surface is potentially dangerous. It is reasonably foreseeable that someone may be injured as a result of this.(duty-foreseeability-proximity...all the legal bits are there for an action in negligence:-)) Man City should be made to reduce the dimensions of their pitch to avoid this kind of incident happening in the future.

If the pitch was at a smaller club and rooney or similar had been injured then the press and FA would be up in arms, Because man city are seen as a big club the they get away with it,

That's a good interview. It's encouraging that Matty's able to be open and honest about his problems. It looks like he's got the right support around him as well. I felt sick when I saw him taken off yesterday. Fingers crossed for a swift and full recovery. Get well soon Matty - we'll need you in May for the final.

It wasn't the slipping on the astro turf that causing the problem, it was actually the reverse of that.
The incident happened right in front of me, and if that area had been total grass, Ethers wouldn't have been injured.
He slid in for a tackle by the line and the astroturf stopped his body momentum so his knee got stuck on the astroturf whilst his upper half continued with its momentum.
His body weigth went totally against his knee and it looked a potential bad injury to me.
The way the astroturf is so close the pitch is very very dangerous!

Yes, I agree. The green turf surface was very thin next to the adjoining playing surface. There are clearly grounds for Stoke to complain to The Prem about this.
