This may already have been mentioned. Matty's goal on Saturday really reminded me of the goal that Alan Hudson scored in the home match against Man City in the 1974/75 season. Stoke were attaking the Boothen End and, after a great run past a number of defenders Hudson sent their entire defence in the wrong direction and gently rolled the ball over the muddy surface past the Man City keeper Macrae. We won 4-0 that day. In my opinion Matty's goal was in the same class as Hudson's. The greatness of the goal was not recognised by the BBC commentator, the MOTD panel or even last night's MOTD2 panel. Hopefully the England team manager noticed it.

I said at the time it will just be brushed aside yet if Giggs/Rooney etc had scored it, it would have been a world class goal

Said exactly the same after the goal and after the match, was in the Sentinel Stand right behind him (block 31) and could see exactly what he was attempting to do, the goal was absolute quality, for Match of the Day to say he "scuffed it" or whatever they said was shite. I would say one of the best I have seen for a long long time.He just placed it between two defenders and away from the keeper who could do absolutely nothing the accuracy was so so good. Watch Huddy's goal V Matties very similar, but Huddy's seemed to be in slow motion compaired to Matties goal.

That's a serious ginga - what the Man Citeh keeper is sporting. Is the colour enhanced in the clip ?, as his hair is radiating ginger. They don't make 'em like that any more....

lovely to see a class player roll one in like that
be it Huddy or Matty
one definitely a class act (as history proved)
and in the modern game where pace stamina and fitness are now so much higher - great to see last saturday
and so the other one, rapidly becoming a truly class act too !

It is great watching that youtube replay. I watched that goal being scored 35 years ago. It seems like only a few years ago. The pleasure I had watching last Saturday's carbon copy was just as great.

It's a mirror image, isn't it? Exactly the same, just reversed.

No it isn't just reversed. Huddy passed the ball forwards (ie into the area) for Greenhoff (?) to play the wall pass whereas Ethers passed it back to Liam for the wall pass.
But it is very similar. I can remember that goal as I was on the Boothen that day - brought a lump to my throat.
