Salif's basically dined out for years on a couple of good group games for Senegal in the 2002 World Cup.

some very harsh comments about Salif here... somewhat unjustified. He may not be the most talented central midfielder we have, but he has proved his worth to the team (particularly in away games). Games such as arsenal away? he was brilliant.
Salif Diao breaks up play, and he does it better than any other midfielder we have. Unfortunately he isn't as good on the ball, this is clear to see for everyone in home games because we tend to have more possession. Away from home, Salif makes vital interceptions and tackles, which has contributed to the little success we have had on the road.
He certainly would be in my starting 11 at Wigan on Tuesday.

I wonder if that idiot on Radio Stoke was one of those Stoke fans singing "he's here, he's there, he's every f-----g where, Salif Diao, Salif Diao"? What short memories some of you have.As Swampy said, hes a STOKE player. He's one of our own, not the enemy.

Am I alone here, I quite like Salif ??? he plays some really nice simple passes, breaks up play in the middle with some brilliant whole-hearted challenges, and makes himself available for passes along the floor from the defence.
Having said that today's centre midfield is the best imo from the selection Pulis is likely to make. Whitehead is on hot form, and Delap just can't be dropped as one of our best players imo. If we were to get injuries in centre mid I'd sub in Salif when we go away, and Pugh or Whelan if we're at home.

Swampy and co:
Players don't get tenure at a club. They have to earn their place and perform well. NOBODY is bigger than the club and NOBODY deserves our undivided loyalty. I loved Macari when he was here and he fucked off, I loved Steino, Sheron, Thorne, Kavanagh...guess what, they went too! Calling fans fuckwits because they don't share your blinkered opinion is childish. Have you only got "emergency banter" to resort to when you're unable to argue your point or do you have something to say?

Dont agree with booing him though as we should get behind whoever our tone picks....Criticize him on here if he plays poorly as thats fans perogatives and what this board should be about,to voice your opinion but at the games lets get behind the whole team....I personally dont really rate him and hope Tone picks the same starting 11 as today but doubt he will...

Sounds like a fairer assessment to me although i still think Delap breaks up the play better. Having said that if Rory's less effective throws and old legs mean he has a rest and Diao comes in i certainly won't mind. * * This opinion is subject to change if he comes in and we end up with a central midfielder playing on the right.

Digital thats the frustration though in him picking him and until we show our disprovals he will keep picking him, sadly thats what happens when US the PAYING PUBLIC see a player that aint good enough but the manager keeps playing him something has to give.

I think Rory's throws are back to his best again, it's like he's had a shoulder transplant. And he was tremendous in the middle today, such a clever footballer imo.

Rory does so much more than throw-ins. He tracks back, tackles, passes ... Rory over Salif every day. And for the record, I've never booed a Stoke player in my life, not even Creswell! I get frustrated and angry at poor performances but I vent them on here or amongst the group sitting around me in the Boothen.

Some harsh words on this thread, I'd never boo any Stoke player, especially one's that genuinely try their best for the team.
