www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/feb/02/alexandre-gaydamak-portsmouth-administrationThank God we are not Portsmouth fans. "The Thai massage parlour visitor considered resigning over the weekend but decided, for now at least, to stay. However, another key figure at the club, the executive director, Mark Jacob, is considering his position after the £3.25m sale of Asmir Begovic to Stoke City went through without his approval." "Portsmouth have sold Begovic, to Stoke, and Younes Kaboul, to Tottenham for £5m, as part of the battle to stabilise their finances. Club sources confirmed that the deals were negotiated by Daniel Azougy, an Israeli former lawyer and convicted fraudster who is working on the finances at Fratton Park." ...there is a small edit in there somewhere...

I wonder how Tony Scholes found someone (Azougy) to sign the paperwork? Actually, if beggars belief that clubs don't have to advise the FA and the Premier League at the start of each season which directors and staff are authorised to sign transfer documents. You could imagine all sorts of complications if Pompey were to claim the transfer was not properly authorised.
If this doesn't prompt the authorities to tighten their rules and bring in a tighter "fit and proper person" test, nothing will.

It says it was actually Storrie that signed Beggers off Forny.
Plus, actually reading the piece the would help.
It also, rightly in my view, says others (Jacob) think he was sold too cheaply.
Dead right. ;D"Jacob is understood to have been convinced Portsmouth should have secured more for Begovic, the 22-year-old goalkeeper who had been keeping David James out of the first team. Jacob would not sign the deal off and the paperwork is understood to have been ultimately authorised by the chief executive, Peter Storrie, although he has complained about being sidelined at the club."

I stand corrected! But it does make a bit of a mockery of the fact that we failed to sign James the other week because a foreign owner could not be found. So Storrie couldn't sign off for James but he did for Begovic? Weird!

The fact that it was the last minute of the last day of the window and it was clear that they weren't going to get any more money out of us (despite threats to report Stoke for tapping up) or anyone else might have helped expedite the process from their end. Or is that a bit too cynical.

It is very weird.
Maybe, the fact that it was so close to deadline focussed the mind there - IOW, no better offers were actually there & on the table?
Maybe Storrie did it out of spite, having been undermined last time - maybe had a strop and tried to assert his authority?
Wouldn't question it too much myself though; the signature's probably a forgery.
Edit: jen, not too cynical at all, in fact it's exactly what i thought while i was tapping this one.

Personally I don't like Stoke getting involved with this bunch (not Portsmouth fans, I'm just glad I'm not in their shoes). How come we need a new goalkeeper all of a sudden and it has to be someone from Portsmouth? We've got one of the best in the Premiership this year and the reserve guys pretty good too.

Because we only have 2 keepers compared to most prem clubs 3 or 4. Thommy as declared himself unfit a in the warm up a couple of times this season which means simmo started and no sub keeper, any injury or sending off would leave us without a keeper. We need 3 Keepers and I have to say it appears we have aquired a very good one.

I'm praying that the Pompey Supporters' Trust, will embarrass Scudamore, on Friday. when they meet, now that the fit and proper person test (FPPT) has been proved beyond doubt to be totally irrelevant.
How can you have a proven multi-fraudster running the club (he is dealing with transfers, after all,) and then say that it's OK, as he isn't on the board? Before long, another club will also say that their resident fraudster is merely 'sub-contracted, short-term'! The FPPT is a nonsense. And Scuds knows it.

I forgot to add that David Conn's main article - Pompey play out their tragedy as farc - is even more interesting.
For example, " that means that if the club does fall into administration or liquidation, Chainrai (Hong Kong businessman who holds two mortgages over the club,) will be able to take possession of the club itself, and Fratton Park , possibly leaving HMCC and the clubs mounting list of other creditors, unpaid"!!!!

Gotta feel a bit sorry for old Grant here - always comes across as a decent manager. Looks like he's chosen a real Lemon of a job - perhaps can ride out the storm until the Hong-Kong chappie can take over. Let's be honest here - we've stolen Begovic!

Sounds like a right old bag of spanners that one & you have to feel for the genuine fans too.
That Azougy blokey sounds a right crook n'all, as David Conn says:
"Portsmouth plummeted, as quickly as that, from Wembley to winding-up petition, then hired a fraudster to sort it out."
Oh dear.

spiderpuss, Grant to ride out until Chainrai takes over? He'll probably have houses built on Fratton Park!

Avran did not want to visit the brothel, but he was told to go there, otherwise he would have failed Portsmouth's FPPT.
