The age old issue of a 'real' Stoke fan got me thinking, can you define a 'real' Stoke fan.
Can any quantifiable requirements be issued?

Its not about buying shirts (thats too easy, I know plenty of liverpool/man utd shirters)
A real fan is someone who supports their club through thick and thin.. It doesn't matter if your playing Swindon or Spurs, as its about an emotional attachment, that eventually becomes a way of life..

The age old issue of a 'real' Stoke fan got me thinking, can you define a 'real' Stoke fan. Can any quantifiable requirements be issued? why just a Stoke fan ?? i know there are many many sports teams out there that people are rabid fans of just like football. cricket, rugby, darts, golf, baseball, american football, basketball, tennis, ice hockey, cycling etc etc I dont think Stoke fans have a monopoly on such things, ideas , opinions, chat rooms and the like ! there are millions ofthem out there

Have a little trip down to France one year and you might get the impression that people are more passionate about cycling than any other sport. In fact, so called minority sports tend to have the most diehard followers.

Its the emotional attachment like said above. I don't think you can really judge it by how much money someone spends on the club, or how many games someone goes to. Although I accept a well off person who lives in Stoke and is free on matchdays ought to go regularly. It's if you FEEL IT when they're playing, regardless of where you are and how much you've spent on the club. If your mood depends on how your team are doing- you're a real fan in my eyes. Hence why I'm still buzzing from sunday...

Really? How many people do you know who are rabid fans of cycling? good god man open your mind !! apparently you have never watched or attended the Tour de France and other such races !! Yeah, and I've watched the Olympic Games as well - 99.9% of the people watching both of those are there for the "spectacle" rather than any genuine interest in the sport. Do they watch a local cycling/athletics meeting on a rainy Tuesday night at their local venue? - do they balls.

Take away from the 250 everyone who isn't personally connected to the competitors leaves fuck knows, TOPS 50 people who are genuinely there to watch as a 'fan' I'd guess the true number would be nearer 10, and they are either dogging or fixing up. I appreciate that's a lot less people than 0.01% of 100,000, but you get my drift.
