I can't see the attractiveness for James in a deal with Tottingham. He gets his wages paid wherever he is and whether he plays or not. His main motivation has to be regular starts so he can win his place in the squad for South Africa. He'll fancy his chances of starting ahead of Sorensen more than he will of starting ahead of Gomez, who, despite his poor start at Spurs, is proving to be a good keeper - less prone to error than Sorensen.

Harry has brought out a copy of TP's wish list again right towards the business end of the window as per usual. Rumour has it that we have dropped our interest in James anyhow. We're back in for Fulop Just kidding, I dont know anything.

will he get a game though Gomez is playing well at the moment. Does that free up Cuddicini?

Clearly David James' motivation is money and not playing for England. over the last twenty years he has earned tens of millions from football and can surely no longer 'need the money'. If he truly wanted to play first team football to get in the England squad then he would have forgone whatever part of his wages Stoke / Portsmouth couldn't or wouldn't pay just to get a game, wouldn't he?

Or what's stopping him waiving the clause in his contract that triggers a contract extension after so many games played for Pompey, which is why they can't afford to play him? Then he'd surely get games for Pompey.

The more set pieces we concede this season because of Sorro's flapping, the more I'll regret us not signing James. It will be interesting to see whether Harry has more luck than we did dealing with (what looks like) a disingenuous Storrie.

I always thought Rednkapps realtionship with Pompey was worse than hours after all wasn't he the one who got them in the mess and then took all there best players namely Krankjaar, Defoe and Crouch.

I said the other day that if James really wanted first team football he would drop his ridiculous wage demands. Clearly getting his wedge and playing second fiddle to Gomez at Spurs , where Harry will no doubt be happy to pay his wages is more important to teh stupid cunt than playing for England. Well fuck him, I hope his England career is over and he doesn't feature at Spurs the twat. An that isdn't sour grapes because he hasn't come to us. I've not rated him him for a fair while.

I said the other day that if James really wanted first team football he would drop his ridiculous wage demands. don't think it's a question of him demanding ridiculous wages but a question of who pays what portion of them- according to the Portsmouth guy anyway, who was "astounded" that Stoke expected Portsmouth to keep paying James's wages while on loan. That's why it didn't go through. I'd still have him as back up for Sorenson.

This agent talk to force Stoke into a deal. 'Another club are intersted so if you don't sign him you will lose him!' Spurs will not sign him full stop

Obviously Stoke think that the wages James is on are too high, and they're not prepared to pay them all (if you believe what's been reported). Also Stoke didn't want to pay James wages for June (ie after the season is over). I think Stoke are being prudent (unlike Pompey who've got themselves into a right mess with high wages etc. And it doesn't alter the fact that if James really wanted first team football above anything else he could adjust his wage demands either to make a move to Stoke more feasible, or to allow Pompey to play him without triggering a contract extension that they can't afford.

They're not really 'wage demands' though are they? His contract stipulates his wages, a contract he signed in good faith with the lunatics at Pompey. He'd be mad to tear it up for a loan move to Stoke. Who'd want him after the end of the season anyway? He'll be 40 and who knows what haircut he'll be sporting.

But if he does want to go to the world cup he HAS to be starting regularly - and he ain't gonna be doing that with Pompey under his present contract. So I guess it depends on his priorities. If he DOES go to the world cup and England do well he'll have no problem getting another contract. He may even decide to retire or go into coaching.

Plus, we don't know which James we'd be getting - either the clean sheet record holder or an ancient crock.
