Jani Viander could be getting a look in for the bench, wasn't he signed for £100k or so?

Viander didn't even play. A complete waste of money, and £100K at the time was quite alot!

Lewis Buxton? I never thought he was as bad as some, but a lot of fans gave him some grief.

i don't think sonko was that bad really, just one bad mistake against blackburn and fans held it over his head.

Lee Mills will always be a hero of mine after THAT goal against Norwich. Lots of contendors for that left wing spot- Kopteff, Asaba, Siggurdson too.

Lewis Buxton was very much underrated IMO.
Jani Viander made it possible to sign Arnar Gunnlaugsson on loan by freeing one loan spot, and ironically helped us to gain promotion without playing a single competetive match.
Ant Pulis was the most frustrating signing of that era because we all knew the reason why he was signed.

Anyone remember Chris Clark from Portsmouth? He played about 20 minutes I think but probably gets the award of "Why the hell did we sign him" of the noughties.

He was and is fucking shit. Look where Sheff Wednesday are at the moment with him as a regular in defence that pretty much tells it right. I've watched them a few times this season, he's scored an own goal and been made to look the poor player he really is.

i don't think sonko was that bad really, just one bad mistake against blackburn and fans held it over his head. Yep and Shawcross made a howler for a goal but never got the same blame. Alan Smart was one was going to say. Wasn't he sent off in his only game? Ian Wright said Lewis Buxton was our star player when we went up...........are you saying Wright talks rubbish then RAF?

Kevin Harper was pretty poor too. Didn't he take, and miss, a godawful penalty? ???

I made a reserve game in the Boskamp reign against Bradford at Lyme Valley. Martin Kolar, Junior and Peter Sweeney plus a youth player who appeared to be in love with "Sweens".
Maybe a shout for all 3 of them in there.

You really don't need me to answer that do you JR? The same Wright that said "Without being too harsh on David Beckham, he cost us the match." H Don't forget that useless lump of shit Kopteff and his mate Junior aswell

tbh i dont think dave brammer was that bad mind you i was only the age of 12-13 when he played for us i think but he could strike a ball and im sure we have had worse midfielders in our team in the naughties
i think clive clark and bynarji guddjohnson or how ever its spelt deserve a shout in that team

Bjarni and Clarke. Not a chance. Whilst Clarke wasn't everyone's cup of tea he was a decent enough player and like Bjarni had some good moments playing for us. Autoglass win, promotion and it was them two combining that set up Jamesy for that goal. Bjarni on his day was a very tidy player and great crosser of the ball.
Kevin Harper's pen yes :-( I flew 6000 bloody miles to that game so he goes straight in for me. I heard the ball in still in orbit around Jupiter

I've watched them a few times this season, he's scored an own goal and been made to look the poor player he really is. H Didn't stoke get relegated with Steve Bould in defence. And Middlesborough with Robert Huth? Your arguement doesn't make sense. Buxton was hardly our best signing but he was far from our worst just that Stoke fans didn't like him - but like Whitehead - except now the two-faced bastards are starting to change their tune. As for worst? Toddy Gudjohnsson or Bruce Dyer anyone? Or in terms of cost + vs tangible return ....step forward Mr Tom Soares?

Where did I say he was the worst? I said he was fucking shit and he was, if you think differently then that's up to you. As for Whitehead, I thought he started wank and has had a couple of good games. As for people being two faced that's bollox. Can you not change your mind about someone? Have you never disliked someone but now like them?
Personally I don't think he is good enough for us, but will be happy for him to prove me wrong.

Tom Soares tormented Spurs that day and if you look at in in that sense his contribution helped us up two places in the table which was worth nearly his fee alone..............actually I'm being too nice there trying to justify him :-) I hope for his sake Herman Hreidarsson gets a move in Jan. The poor bugger has been sunk more times than Uncle Albert. Will this be his 5th time?

A few more to go with my Michael Ricketts suggestion:
Keith Andrews Steve Guppy Peter Kopteff - came with a big reputation, did nothing. Demar Phillips - Too light weight for English football, never settled. Hannes Sigurdsson Henrik Risom

My one lasting memory of Marlon Broomes is when he practically dived to save a shot from off the line against Crewe. Banksy would have been proud of that. The most blatant handball EVER, and the referee sisn't see it, so we didn't get penalised at all. Lovely work, Broomesy.

For the 'next Peter Thorne' award, the nominations are Chris Greenacre, Carl Asaba and Rikki Dadason - all have put up decent numbers at times during their careers, but were all Bruce Dyer at Stoke.
And how about that legend Henrik Risom as a midfield dynamo?
