should you not be working Mr Werrington ;D He's booked an extra week off. Currently rumoured to be sitting at home listening to his "Best of Blancmange" CD.

I agree there are plenty of decent keepers about so not the end of the world. Do like him but he is replaceable.
Dave did mention interest in a Pompey player and James linked before

The title of the original post does'nt match the contents of the quotes posted in this thread. Tommy says himself that he's happy but if an offer came in it would be hard to refuse.
Whats wrong with that? Would'nt we all do the same?
Yes, his career was on the wane when the call came from our manager, but did Simmo deserve to be dropped so soon after promotion without having the chance to put a foot wrong in the Premier League?
We can't have it both ways and that is pretty much life i'm afraid.
At his age, the chance to play in the Champions League is, and should be, too good to turn down. Decent Stokies will, rightly, wish him well on his way.
Until then, relax! ;D

Dave did mention interest in a Pompey player and James linked before Yes you're right there, and he also suggested at some point that there could be an interest in a premiership keeper on a seperate message. I never bought into the theory that the pompey player was belhadj due to his african nations commitments and also if we aren't prepared to wait for parker to get fit then surely we won't sign anyone who's involved in the african nations.

Bayern Munich wanted him as back up didnt they?
otherwie presumably he would have - as would any other Stoke player ever - have gone like a shot.
with the World Cup coming up pretty much guaranteed 1st team football in the prem for a club that beleives in him imho will be enough to keep him here.
might not see him after the summer though.

He won't move unless he is guaranteed first team football (World Cup n'all that). Tommy is ours, don't worry.

Think you're looking too much into the half time substitution. If he had any kind of injury best to go off considering the game etc. Not the first time he's been substituted.
Maybe he injured his finger wagging it too hard at Beattie.
He hasn't actually left yet and some are almost suicidal. Is a position we can easily fill

He's been great for us but if he wants to move on then we shouldnt stand in his way.
No-one is bigger than the club and all players have their price......TP will no doubt have someone else lined up.

Let's face it if he gets a good offer with a Champions League team he is well within his rights to leave. All this loyalty crap is nonesense........Let's Get Real. Do we complain when player's leave their clubs to join us??? What about Whelan deserting Sheff Wed? What about Beattie deserting Sheff Utd? Loyalty in football went out of fashion with Denis Smith and Alan Bloor

Even so if I was TP I would take that as a big hint that goalkeeping backup is a "no brainer" now for January. Enter Smithies.
He has been angling for extensions and so on for a while, I think he has been very good for us no doubt. But a young hungry keeper keeping him on his toes was always required. Plenty of decent keepers to choose from.

Shit if we lose Tommy.
Having said that if our best keeper was being poached by Cardiff City we could be said to have problems we don't want. Our best players being poached by champions league teams is the top of the pecking order.
Not good news of course but the kind of problems we want.

Swap him for Ribery!!!
Seriously, if it is Bayern, you couldn't stand in his way. Get James/Foster in along with Smithies as back up.
