I agree completely.
A little period of calm (from Pulis, players and crowd) would go a long way I think.
As a fellow rimmer of all things Coates and Pulis, I was always going to agree!

On the other side of the coin it is hardly a " my god were in the shit, I mist get the cheque book out and buy a creative mid fielder, striker that can score goals and a right midfielder with pace" is it?
And to think I am not a phw

We're a much better team than last year it's just that we haven't had the so called rub of the green and these so called officials well that's a different story.
Some team sometime soon is gonna get a right tooling and it could well be Fulham.

We are doing ok.
What worries me is that we will get like Bolton are at the moment - ie, the crowd booing pretty much every sub, any game they are not winning at half time/on the hour/full time.
It must be a horrible experience for all involved, as the half empty stadium clearly suggests. Surely that won't happen here???

Tazi I think the team is capible of doing that certainly, however the way in Whig the teams heads collectivley dropped when the second goal went in at man city and following the triple save by heart against Birmingham I'm struggling to see if the team has the belief anymore. And that is a dangerous thing and worth worryig about.

I truly believe that there was loads of comitment and desire against birmingham and even when we went one down we continued to press and not once did our heads drop. In fact i would rate it as our best performance of the season at home. I was, before the match expecting there to be alot of discontent should Stoke go behind in that match but it never materialised and that's because the lads gave their all, and did you notice that the fans continued to get behind them all and not get on the managers back?. So to come on this messageboard and read the negativity was quite ironic really.

Quite frankly mate that is pure bullshit and that's because have you not heard/felt the discontent during a poor performance at the Brit? because if you haven't then i would suggest that you you simply haven't been. Edit - Those who post on here who go to the match then post the negativity and it's those that i call ironic really and not those that just listen on the radio and then post. One of my mates who posts on here and is as loyal supporter as they come would have text me to say Pulis out straight after the match but for some reason he didn't and yet posts on here negativity afterwards. You do the reckoning mate.

Don't get me wrong I support the team endlessly, and the crowd was top notch. But I did feel that the disapointment within the team was there for all to see. I have been to most games home and way this season, but it's hard to see where our break will come at the moment. The man city game apart we have been shafted by shit referees and at times poor team selections (from what I have seen of Lawrence maybe these have been forced). It's a concern and untill we start stringing together a sequence of results then the situation will only manifest. We have to get a point a game on avrage between now and the end of the season so 19 0-0 results would do me at this point in time. Looking at the fixture lis for January we have some tough games, we simply must look at 5-6 points from the next 4 games.

so where was the collective booing and Pulis out songs on Saturday?
I recall the booing v Portsmouth at half time when we were shite, and we let the side know, but then at the start of the 2nd half got behind them again.
There have been chants for Whelan and Fuller when it was glaringly obvious that we have needed a goal threat and players who can keep a ball.
Individuals will utter their frustrations but there are no mass groups chanting for the managers head. The Oatcake is the place to let off steam and thats why this site has the negativity.

Looking at the fixture lis for January we have some tough games, we simply must look at 5-6 points from the next 4 games. Of course there was going to be disapointment but in all honesty that disapointment in the players didn't show itself again after they had both kicked off from the restart and after the match had ended. Nothing wrong at Stoke mate nothing wrong because we will get our breaks and WHEN we do it'll make those very same players even more stronger and i still maintain that if it Wasn't for Hart's inspired once in a blue moon performance it would have been raved about as a decent performance but such is the fickle mind of a supporter they fail to see that there was alot of positivity that should be taken from that match because Hart pulls of three world class saves, Ryan misses an open goal from all of two yards, Ryan glances a free header just wide, Tuncay chooses to lay it off to Matty when central and clean through on goal instead of taking a stride and planting it straight into the back of the net and that penalty incident quite frankly was a disgrace that it was not awarded. So all in all plenty to take from that match because the bad/unfortunate run that we are on at the moment will not continue indefinately because quite simply that's football for ya and same as i say it'll make us stronger as a team. All in all i'm most pleased with how i see things but a touch of luck wouldn't go amiss though much the same as everyone needs a touch of luck in life. Onwards and upwards for my-self and in Pulis i trust 110%.

I suspect Tazi actually thinks he is talking coherent sense. The fact is though he doesn't understand what irony means and has contradicted himself so many times over the past couple of days it just shows how desperate he is to defend Pulis, even if it means blaming anything or anyone else. I'm not a PHW but neither am I a rimmer and I'll tell you what Tazi you are getting nearly as ridiculous as the fromafar bloke

I'm a confirmed PHW but I see little wrong with that assessement by Tazi. The 'tonking' of somebody, someday, could have happened against Brum. It's a combination of bad luck, poor finishing and crap decisions by the officials that are combining to take us on this long run of poor results. Perversely, I was encouraged by the performance of the team against Brum. It will come right. Pulis, since he's been here, has always had bad runs and good runs. Usually, he manages to correct the bad runs either through luck (Grifin and Ameobe getting injured, forcing him to change the side, which then went on to get us in the Prem is a perfect example) or by bringing in players that can change a side. (Taggart and Beattie are two such instances.) I'm hoping he can arrest this latest bad run by the injection of a couple of new faces. Failing that, we need to have some luck. The irony of the fact that we played so well against Brum wasn't lost on me. That team he put out, which IMHO, played so well, was pretty much forced on him by injuries. OS.

yep - definitely a pearl of wisdom in a sea of shyte
i.e. what Peter Coates has said re: no need to panic
and I certainly wouldnt swap Brums squad for ours either
Be interesting to see how Bolton go now
they've just sacked a manager -(and a very decent bloke by all accounts) purely because the fans dont like him too
lets see eh !

Don't panic! Don't panic! Sounds more like Corporal Jones than Peter Coates! So, PC thinks Stoke have a better squad than Brum? But, that has to be proven by results! 0-0 and 0-1 don't exactly prove PC's point does it? Finally, I want Stoke to move the ball at pace thro' the midfield like Brum! Then, perhaps we can say we have a better squad?

Squad is good enough to keep City away from trouble. No win in 6 games Average 3 shots per game The stats show that City are in deep decline at the moment, and with hard games coming up, it looks as if Stoke could be heading back down to the Championship unless drastic action is taken now, imho. Pulis shouldn't be given another open cheque book, his signings in the summer haven't done anything for stoke apart from killing squad moral. If I was Shawcross and I witnessed Huth come in for £5m and put on higher wages than me, that would be enough to disillusion me. Then we have the Kitson affair and the Tuncay signing, Pulis can't manage big names as they are bigger than him and don't fear or respect him.

Discuss. Squad is good enough, yes. Mistakes are being made though. Players out of position on too many occasions, players picked despite playing very badly whilst good performances have been rewarded with a place on the bench. erikssons points are bang on the money. Clearly though your definition of bullshit is anything that does not suit your argument. It's clear that there are many fans who vocally support the team at the match but then voice their concerns on here, or on the concourse at half time amongst other places. Some things have gone wrong over the past few weeks, and unless you are suggesting that no-one should ever mention this, then I fail to see the point with your complaints.

Tazi, have read your posts again and you have a confusing message. By stating you were expepcting the fans to show their dissapointment and frustaion, you must be of the opnion that things are not all that well? Oldstokie has a point in that Pulis does tend to stumble on a team which performs due to injury, suspension etc. However for giving anyone a tonking I just can't see Pulis keeping us getting at someone once we go one up The original comment from Coates, I tend to agree with given we have strengthend from last year, however the constant tinkering and unsettled side is causing the problems. Thats what Tone needs to address

Yes there is no need to panic - just to acknowledge we have - in the main - a massive goal scoring problem. If we had notched just one goal a game in the last two games we would have two points instead of zero. No team is never too good to go down - see Newcastle last year. We need to get to root of our goal scoring problems and FAST.

I'm more concerned about the team, it's the selection of the correct players for the correct positions and the negative team tactics that worries me.
Where will the goals come from without a bit more thought about the midfield?

I understand what Coates is saying about our team/squad. I may also agree with the 'don't panic' bit, too. The one thing he didn't say, and he wouldn't, obviously, is that Brum have a better manager than us. Well, I think so and that's why they're where they are and why we are where we are. However, if every team changed their manager every time they went on an extended poor run of results, The Prem would look like a game of musical chairs. Now is not the time to get rid of Pulis, but if he takes us down, (or maybe even if it looks that he cannot arrest the slide) then he should go and we should try a fresh face with the squad we have.
OS.

There is no need to panic if we're honest. Although we're on a bad run, we have been playing relatively well. It's not as if we've been rubbish, getting hammered every week. We've not taken our chances in the last 5/6 games and have been punished. Away against Blackburn and Villa, we could and maybe should have had 6 points. We didn't disgrace ourselves Man Citeh in Mancini's first game in charge and we didn't fair too badly against the Arse. Against Wigan and Birmingham we should have converted our chances and won comfortably but, as it was, we took 1 point from 6.
Last year, we surpassed all expectations. I expected a tense, tough season but, as it happened, we were safely home with a few games to spare and finished a brilliant 12th. What some people fail to realise is that our number one goal is still to avoid relegation this season. We'd all love to be in the top half of the season like Birmingham but we're not. We need to get behind the team against Fulham, Burnley and Liverpool and, if everything goes our way and we convert our chances, I can see us picking up 6/7 points from those games.
We're not playing terribly and there's no loss of unity - we're just not getting the results we've probably deserved. If we ship the deadwood out next month and bring in 2/3 more team players then I expect us to finish in around the same position as last season.
There's no need to panic like a schoolgirl having her first period. We'll be fine.
