yet another game where Whelan flattered to deceive and had absolutely NO influence on at all.
The Emperors New Clothes of midfielders, Whelan. In the almost 3 years he's been here I can count half a dozen decent games. I'm struggling for more tbh.

I think Glenn plays better alongside Rory.

I thought he offered nothing that the past-it Eustace didn't already. But he PROVED HIMSELF last season, and showed just what a good player he can be with the right players around him. He's not overrated, because no-one is suggesting he's Kaka or Messi. He's a solid player, and head and shoulders better than his current 'competition'.

solid is not something I wish to describe our 'best' central midfielder with.
he possibly is, but is way below the required standard at this level. You can count his telling passes in a game on the fingers of a boxing glove.

You can count his telling passes in a game on the fingers of a boxing glove. If you check the stats for the Villa game you'll see that he totalled more successful passes than both Diao and Whitehead put together - and Whelan didn't even complete the full 90-minutes. What you're saying just isn't born out in the results.

Whelan was very poor today but still better than a number of other Stoke players. When Liam isn't playing on the right of midfield we always look like an unbalanced side. The question is why play Whitehead in place of Liam? Not a good swap as Whitehead is crap in the middle and even more crap as a right sided midfield player. Whelan should play in centre midfield with either Abdoulaye or Delap when he is able to play again. Liam should be playing on the right. Diao, Whitehead and Collins are crap.
