We're going to be made to watch that one for years to come. In Australia, the mainstream media all but ignores football. Premier League reports are usually several pages in from the back in the zone that would be allocated to netball or curling in more civilised nations. The word "Stoke" will usually only be printed in conjunction with Manchester united, Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea.
Today, Sydney's Daily Telegraph had not 1 but 3 individual pictures of "That Figueroa goal." A friend that works for Channel 10,( a major network that only acknowledges a football if it's ovoid and wedged underneath a gorilla's armpit) has just finished mixing the audio for a special feature on their Sports Tonight segment . The subject is obviously "that Figueroa goal."
Poor old Tommy is going to save a few more penalties if he's going to wipe that one from the collective memory.
