GAME TO REMEMBER The mid-eighties saw The Potters relegated from Division One and in Manager Mick Mills first season in charge we faced a struggling Rovers side on the 29th March 1986 in a Canon Division 2 game. A crowd of 5,408 were at Ewood to witness a 1-0 victory for Stoke - Carl Saunders netted a 76th minute winner with a superb strike. Stoke team - Fox, Callaghan, Hemming, Mills, Bould, Berry, Adams, Saunders, Bertschin, Bonnyman(on loan from Grimsby), Heath. Rumour of the day was that Mills was looking to sign Bury right-back Lee Dixon.
This was my 1st ever away match without my parents.
I was 15 and had nothing to do on the day. PMT bus from Stone to Stoke and turned up where the coaches were parked behind the Stoke End.
One spare seat on the 3rd of the 3 coaches we took that day!
Cracking goal by Saunders, cant believe the size of the crowd.
Back to Stoke, then the PMT bus back to Stone and my Mum thought I had been at my Nan's house all day ;D
Happy days!

I went to blackburn for the first time in the 86/87 season, a 2-1 loss. I've just checked the results from that season and the 4-1 defeat at shrewsbury sticks out. Classic away end.

We came out of the station approximately fifty handed and a small mob of Blackburn were being quite obnoxious and throwing missiles at us from the top of a small embankment.
The gauntlet had been well and truly thrown down at us, so we justifiably steamed over and only a couple of their older heads stood (the rest had it on their toes). We dished out a few slaps before the Old Bill arrived en masse and nicked a few of our lads.

Was that the game when Spider was playing in midfield, he picked the ball up deep and kept running and running past their players towards the away end before twatting the ball from outside the area into the goal? Can't believe there were only 5000 at the game
