..., being top of the championship.
Last year in the epic chase for the playoffs, i probably felt more nervous than i do now, we are top of the championship ,but it just doesn't seem real...
I used to look at teams such as Sunderland and Birmingham and think "look how much money they are spending, the squad they have, how they keep digging out results, we are miles away from them."
But we aren't now are we.
There is something special here at Stoke, and if we don't manage it this season(which ,forgetting, may be a tad to early, quote that cunt Billy Davies). I'm sure with the foundations we have now, we will make it within the next 3 years.
Just look at how far we have come in the space of two years. The progress we have made is simply extraordinairy. I go into every game thinking that we can/will win it, and what a great feeling to have. We have a team which can go to the likes of Wolves , go 2-1 down, and then come storming back to win 4-2........ This wouldn't have happened in any other season, we probably would've been on the end of a 4-1 drubbing....
The game against Scunny,(i wasn't here for the Saints match,on holiday) was the first time in a LONG , LONG time when people were singing on the way home after the match, it means so much to people of this city, and there is just an aura that this is the season.
We now possess players all over the pitch who are potential" match winners" in this league, even our defensive pairing are closing in on 20 between them! When we are under the cosh, go a goal down etc, we come through it. Players such as lawrence and Cresswell being the catalyst for this, not only effective in the final third, but blocking goal-bound efforts and covering full backs at the same time, it's rare to see these-days..
You look at teams such as West Brom, they are vulnerable.
Who cares if they can take off Roman bednar and Kevin phillips and bring on Ishamel Miller and Luke moore, at the end of the day, they have lost 10 of their first 33 games, a loss ratio of nearly 1 every 3 matches..... It's not about your team on paper in this divison, it's all about pulling together, and getting the right kiddies in (personality wise aswell) good enough to do a job, as Bristol City have shown.
The city is rocking!!!
SO LET'S KEEP IT ROCKED!!!

Good post mate
I cant remember ever feeling as confident as I do at this time. I have discussed this a few times with friends and colleagues, with a lot of them commenting on the tough games ahead, and how hard so and so will be to beat. I however argue that, Stoke are there on merit, we have performed consistently and have produced the results week in week out. I try and look at it from the oppositions view. All teams in the Championship must now be looking at Stoke thinking that getting a point from us would be a good result.

SIOCH, well said mate.
it does seem surreal, but stop pinching yourself, it is real!!
We have built ourselve sinto a position whereby it doesn't even matter about other tams (although we know it isn't as simple as that)
With just 1080 minutes of football remaining (plus stoppage time) we are close.
Lets not get carried away though, there is still a fair bit to be done, but carry on in the same vain and you can't see any other outcome...promotion!!

Great Post Corty,
It's weird I was excited last seaosn, but at the same time I was 'realistic' I thought we were going to make the play-offs but I wasn't banking on it!! Didn't get too hopefull
It's totally different this year. We are on to something BIG, every week I come away more and more excited.

I think last year our inability to score goals let us down .
If we fail to go up this year, it will be because the defence wasn't sorted out in time.
I see what you mean a- teen, last year we were realistic of our chances of NOT making the playoffs.
This year, we are realistic of going up, not hopeful.
;D
