Brammer made me laugh when he said he was released from the cage for a season when the Dutch clown was in charge only to return when Pulis came back.

To be fair, the recent goal by Whelan AWAY ( ) at Spurs! ( ) and Whiteheads Kaka impression yesterday blow that theory "out of the water" (Like that one?) I think Pulis was being kind to Brammer by calling it a cage. Given the size of his backside at times, i'd have called it the "Lock up Unit". I think Brammer is being a bit OTT on himself trying to compare him in that Stoke City team and Whitehead in this team. ;D

'The Cage' revalation was perhaps the single most interesting thing to come out of this weekends match. Perhaps it helps us all to understand why certain players (namely Whitehead) look so, well, shit ? Yes, although Whitehead has been dissappointing to many fans, including myself, I'm finding it hard to be critical of the bloke, I suspected all along he was being well and truly shackled by Pulis and I'd like to see how he performs given license to be the box to box player we are told he is. The real tragedy of this is that by shackling Whelan and not allow anywhere near the opposition box other than at set pieces, Whelan is being denied the opportunity to use one of his greatest assets, his shooting from the edge of the box. So frustrating.

I thought it was clear the system they play and the roles that the midfielders have. The shape they keep is very rigid.

The issue for me is not the "cage" in itself. Whilst it can be a frustrating approach, it is the reason why teams find us so hard to break down, and why we rarely get hammered.
The issue for me is the imbalance of playing Delap out wide to accommodate Diao and Whitehead into the "cage". This means the middle two have less options for releasing the ball when they win it. Delap is usually quite close to them.
We still played the same system after the substitutions, but with Lawrence on, and Sidibe holding the ball better than Beattie we looked far more threatening.

I don't really agree about us giving teams too much respect.
I felt we were complacent against Wolves and Hull and then look what happened.

actongate Whelan was outside the cage when he scored at Spurs, he was playing on the right. no arguement with Whitehead and Kaka at all though obviously
