I would say the 360, but only cause I own an xbox though! You'll have ask somoone who owns both, but if you want my opinion, yeah the 360.

It also depends on what your mates have. Theres no point buying a 360 if all your mates have a ps3.

I've had both and there both great. Look at the type of games you like and jugde from there
E.g 360 has gears of war and halo ps3 has uncharted and ratchet and clank
online is free on ps but xbox live is prob better. Ps3 has blue ray.

I have both an Xbox 360 Elite and a PS3 Slim
I play on a 100 inch projector, 1080p, with proper amp etc and speakers.
My opinion is Xbox has GTA4 and extras on, halo, gears.
Ps3 has blu ray.
I think you should ask father Christmas for both, although if I had to have one it would Ps3, it gets used more, but Xbox is also a good choice, depends if you have a blu ray player or not.

i'd go ps3 myself, both similar but ps3 has a lot more potential with games

More potential? Can't see that myself. Microsoft dominate with their $$$, even COD MW2 was advertised 'for xbox360'
If you want to watch blu ray films get a ps3, if that doesn't bother you then get an xbox ...unless you can't live without MGS or Ratchet and Clank

The PS3 does have that Home thing though, how is that by the way?

I'm not a fan boy and never will be but All because mw2 was'nt advertised on ps3 doesn't mean jack shit. Sony tend to concentrate on there own exclusives eg eye toy, LBP and uncharted.

Of course it means something, it shows the spending power that Microsoft have to demand that their advert is advertised for xbox 360 does it not? I've got nothing against the PS3 and if it hadn't have cost so much on release I would have had one instead of the 360 but fact is fact. Eye toy is pants to be fair, Microsoft are using their spending power yet again to bring this Project Natal stuff which is supposed to rival if not better the Wii, it's obvious theyre just trying to give consumers everything that all the other consoles can offer but with a "we can do it better" approach. Little Big Planet is a kiddys game, and if you've got little uns get a Wii, simple as that. Uncharted might be a good game, I haven't played it so I couldn't comment but it doesn't seem like something you couldn't live without if Call Of Duty is dominating game sales worldwide in that genre. A whole lot of concentration on not a great deal IMO. It's a good, cheap blu-ray player though

Well for once i'm gonna have to agree with Funky.
But it all depends on what you want out of the console. I have both and I have to say the Xbox gets a lot more attention. The things the PS3 has going for it are obviously the Blu Ray player (if you like films of course, if not then its pretty useless) and the exclusive games like Uncharted 2, Little Big Planet and MGS.
Uncharted 2 is one hell of a game - does it compare to Modern Warfare 2? well as they are two totally different games you can't really draw up a comparison but having Modern Warfare on both consoles, the Xbox versions graphics and playability stand out much more than on the PS3. Little Big Planet is very good but gets boring very quickly. Very good though if you have kids as they love the little sackboys etc. There is talk of MGS porting across to Xbox but no news for a while on that one.
Personally mate, I would go for the one that all your mates have got - Its much better playing with people you know rather than someone you don't. I'm absolutely positive that the PS3 will dominate in about 5 years but they have a lot of work to do to get there.
For the moment Xbox and Xbox Live are far superior.

Yeah, you have to choose the console your mates have got, you will enjoy the gaming experience a lot more and you wont go wrong with either of the consoles to be fair.

I've had both and became a point where there wasnt any decent games coming out in the 360 (like the ps3 when it was first released). But on the whole, I'd say PS3 has a better selection of exclusive games now. 360 has a far superior online experience as long as your willing to pay the subscription, I've never had a problem with PSN or online gaming though, and through an american account get things early. I use the blueray alot as I've got it linked to a 42" and surround sound so can benefit from it. It just depends what your after. My view is that after having the PS3 for an equall time to when I had the 360, I use the PS3 more and do prefer it. And Halo sucks .

Forgetting the fact it's a blue ray player, and ignoring exclusive game's for xbox or ps3, here's some other reasons in my opinion, ps3 is alot better than xbox, and I've had both
1 - Looks so much better, xbox looks cheap, only word for it 2 - The noise the xbox makes when it's on is ridiculous, sounds like a plane taking off, ps3 is as good as silent 90% of the time 3 - Don't have to buy battery's for the pads 4 - Doesn't have a power brick that's twice as big as most table top's 5 - Online is free 6 - Looks like it's for proper video game fans, xbox with all it's avators looks like it's for kids
and the most impotant
7 - PS3'S WORK, you can buy it safe in the knowledge everytime you turn it on it will turn on, not give you a red ring

Brad;
2 - The noise the xbox makes when it's on is ridiculous, sounds like a plane taking off, ps3 is as good as silent 90% of the time 3 - Don't have to buy battery's for the pads 4 - Doesn't have a power brick that's twice as big as most table top's
All factors that I totally forgot about, for that consider yourself karma'd'ed. Before I had surround sound I always had to turn the volume up loud to hear the game to fully immerse myself in it if you like.
The power pack that comes with it is fucking huge and diffucult to store away because its just massive.
The batteries for the controllers didnt really bother me, always just stuck rechargable's in, a ball ache but not a massive problem, just something sony got a one up on the xbox design.

In 18months of having an xbox I never got round to buying rechargeable batteries, and there's nothing worse than having one pad die in the middle of a fifa tournament at 2 in the morning
Just want to say I don't hate xbox (I hate mine for breaking but not xbox as a whole) I just think ps3 is a much better console. Gears of war and the extra GTA missions are really all xbox has over playstation
Everyone say's xbox live is better, but I've never had a problem with PSN, then again all I use it for is playing games online not renting movies or sky sports or any of that
And I want to add a number 8 to my list
8 - Internet Browser, can't believe MICROSOFT xbox still doesn't have one, such a simple thing to have but makes a big difference, being able to play anything you find on the internet straight on the tele is brilliant, especially now iplayers on the dashboard, I even watch match of the day live on there when my tele signals shit and it's a life-saver

Wrong, The internet browser is just something on the dashboard of the ps3
When I said "Everyone say's xbox live is better, but I've never had a problem with PSN, then again all I use it for is playing games online not renting movies or sky sports or any of that". I'm comparing the services of xbox live and playstation network
The internet browser isn't part of the playstation network, as long as your connected to the internet you can sign out of the network and still use the browser.

Like I said, talking shit mate.

I have both, I had a Xbox since it came out and a Xbox 360 since it came out, got a xbox elite then the elite got RRoD after only 3 weeks of playing, sent it to microsoft ofcourse and they replaced it and the reason it broke according to them was a faulty "chip" so i got the new elite xbox from them and opened it up, plugged it in and it was instant RRoD from the start so i smashed that at a party I went to like 2 years ago and went back to my old 360 and was ok for 3 months then got RRoD from that one! i had run out of warranty on it so I couldnt be arsed and sold it for spares, got a PS3 about 2 years ago and use it almost daily for movies/gaming and occasionaly showing slideshows/home made movies to friends/family, Ive gamed on it ALOT with all different kinds of games and mainly about 95% of the time I use multiplayer cause I just never really like "story modes" and ive NEVER been disconnected from the playstation network the only times ive not been able to log in was maintainence which is schedulued but its fantastic, the graphics are amazing and I only recently found out that blu-ray readers have a upscaling feature which boosts the quality of normal DVD's when used in the machine.. Also I cant remember where i read it but the CPU inside a PS3 is on the same level as a intel i7 (but nothing to do with intel) and it makes the machine a beast they have built the machine very well and so far in 2 years ive never had any sort of breakdown/over heating/crashes ALSO ive added a 500gb HDD to my PS3 and installed windows on it as an alternative operating system and was shocked when I installed a PC game called "Crysis" which demands a high end computer to run and it run it so damm smoothly it was unreal.. Ive recently put football manager 2010 on it and use the gaming pad to control the cursor instead of my mouse i use for the PS3 and its very nice If you get a PS3 I suggest the new slim 1, I dont know whever its better/worse internaly than the normal PS3 but my mate got 1 and it is so damm sexy but ofcourse the xbox has alot more games etc etc but thats because microsoft spent hundreads of millions into their console and was out maybe 3 years before PS3? not sure on that but i think if they were both released on the same day at the same time with the features they both currently have I think the PS3 would come out on top... Also PS3 just outsold the Wii/xbox 360 and DS because of the game coming out next year Final Fantasy which the chinese go nuts for (not my cup of tea) So maybe gaming companies that have previously shyed away from Sony because of console sales might get some more games into production... But overall I would buy a PS3 over a Xbox 360 for the following reason: free online, great design, great quality of gaming, blu-ray which is the leading HD brand, upscales old DVD for better quality, long lasting life, of all the people i know with a PS3 over 40+ ive never known a console to break, can upgrade the HDD for all your movies/photos/music i currently use 450gb of 500gb which is a tad messy BUT hasnt slowed my machine down AND they have come down in price a damm lot, I got my console 2 years ago for £250 with 2 games, my mate got a slimline PS3 for £150 with 2 games! but final word: Dont buy a Wii.
