I think Dickinson & Davies in the South Yorkshire derby last night showed us why they are not in the first team set up.
Thought booth were poor last night, Davies margially better out of the two.
Also, on a separate note how lucky were Sheff Utd?

Davies is a strange case
generally been very good, player of the year at Saints,in the champ'p for a No. of sides but never a prem RB in a million years & quite probably not at CB either
seems to have a good attitude & it didnt help that he was more injured than all parties thought he was when we signed him.
Dicko still has time imho but needs to be putting in decent performances at that level of course Noel Blake always insisted he'd be a better ball winning midfielder than a LB so might be interesting to see him in that role.

A ball winning midfielder? What would we want with one of them?

Davies was lucky to stay on the field last-night. Could've quite easily been sent off.

I'm no fan of Dicko but I thought he had a decent game last night. Put some great crosses in on the overlap.
Davies looks like an average Championship defender.

How did Shotton play last night? Quite well, but should have been sent off.

Shotton played okay, was lucky not to get sent off as he seemed to stamp on Walker.

According to a chap I know who is a mad Barnsley supporter and goes all home and away, Shotton is nowt short of a revelation. Gushing comments such as 'easily Prem class', 'you got a really good un there', 'great on the ball' etc
Last night he thought he played well (but nowhere near as good a snormal), but is not as good as a cb and looks far better as an fb. If thats the case, TP will ship him asap. Cant have a proper fb can we?

I asked on 606 recently and the praise for Shotton was continuous and effusive.
He's a hell of a player, apparently.

Shotton is - apparantly - highly rated by the SCFC management team, inc Pulis.

Strange that he now seems to be a natural right back. He started life as a striker but was converted to centre back and played most of his games at the Academy at cb. I think it was at Tranmere on loan where he started to play at right back. To be honest he probably has the best chance of breaking into our team at right back. We simply have too many centre backs ahead of him in the pecking order.

i thought dicko had a quality game last night, his distribution as always wasnt brilliant but he did put in one great last ditch tackle to stop a certain goal, and also overlapped well down the left and got into some good crossing positions.
i dont think though that he will be good enough to get into our first team, which is a shame because in the promotion season he looked a better prospect than wilko!
as for davies, i still think he could have a role to play at stoke, hes young, good in the air and comfy on the ball. in my opinion he is a better and more versatile player than leon cort.

Davies better than Cort?
apart from scoring goals, which he hadnt done in the prem, thats a good call.
tbh Cort & Davies could go really.

VP, "asked on '606' recently"? Showing off again, eh? Only a joke. I'm not the envious sort.

He started life as a striker but was converted to centre back ... it was at Tranmere on loan where he started to play at right back. No chance of him playing for our first-team then. If he was a defender converted to a striker on the other hand ...
