He started well when he first came to Stoke, but in my opinion, he's been really poor in the last few matches. Did he make a forward pass today? Always sideways or backwards.

Who could he pass to when there's no movement?

Really feel for nzonzi. The blokes a class act but the players around him are awful

has anyone else noticed that N'Zonzi seems to be a second half only player?
Not having a pop, and as said beforehe looks up and sees mediocrity around him, but he does not impose himself in many first halfs, for me

Thought he was ok but nothing more.
He does appear to be looking more and more like an angry young man who is getting increasing frustrated with those around him.
That said he hasn't hit the heights himself lately.

Who could he pass to when there's no movement? This with spades, some peoples comments beggar belief, if you have no targets making runs and the wingers are never ahead of the play what do you expect him to do.

I thought he was excellent today and must be frustrated by the lack of options going forward.
He rarely gives the ball away and has no other choice but to pass sideways or backwards !
Top player

He's surrounded by shit players who cannot either hold possession or pass. aka. Kightly, Walters, Whelan, all 4 defenders
What is he supposed to do?
He is not Messi

Who could he pass to when there's no movement? Agreed. Forward passes today were tantamount to giving the ball away. NZonzi brings us something we have lacked for ages - why do we expect him to do everything else as well. Its team game and as a team we are coming up short recently.

I thought he looked head and shoulders above the rest of his teammates.
He does go sideways a bit, but that's what good footballers do- keep possession. It isn't always possible to go surging through midfield or pinging defence splitting passes every time you get the ball is it?
God knows we've waited long enough for a midfielder who can keep the ball, so let's not start complaining about it eh?

he looks frustrated. no quality around him, no movement for him to pick a pass. he needs a partner in the midfield.

Trouser, Spot on. If we actually had forward who ran the channels, he might well play the ball forward, but at least N'zonzi does not give the impression that the ball is a ticking timebomb, unlike the rest of the midfield, wingers, full backs - in fact the rest of the team!

When was the last time he ran FORWARDS with the ball at his feet and then laid off a pass? Today, on the rare occasions we strung a few passes together, if the ball went to him, the move just broke down. If no one's moving for you, make the move yourself. He's had 2 x shots on goal in his Stoke career.

We have one and Whelan played a good ball into CJ but clearly Tone didn't approve so asked Cameron to play out wide after that.

It's nothing to do with the players around him he's not cutting edge enough, don't get me wrong he's a great player but I noticed a couple of times he passed it to another player which wasn't the best option and put often Walters or Kightly under real pressure

i think he's been suppressed by our formation, tactics, ect. you can see over the last few weeks him becoming more and more frustrated, i feel he's not a happy player at the moment. Thats the last thing we need at present.

By far our most/only creative player. Restrained and stifled by Tony. If we can't build our team around him I can't see how we are going to move forward As was muted on this threadhttp://oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=Potters&thread=206789&pag
ther is an argument to make him captain togive him some responsibility, put some enthusiasm in the team and togive his head. If not he will get disilusioned and either be disruptive or want away. Tony would never do it of course because it would scare him to death

best stoke player on the pitch I thought, hardly ever wastes the ball. Its coming to something if people want to moan about him, when he's the most positive thing thats happened this season.

Played 23, Goals 0, Assists 0 but how many goals have we scored as q team in those 23? how many times have we gotten forward enough? the majority of those games, we have played one up front, making it almost an impossibility to make a direct assist from midfield, to a player being marked by 4 others. this stat isn't nzonzi's fault. it's the negative tactics.

I watched on TV today (yes, I'm one of those supporters ) and didn't see N'Zonzi put a foot wrong all game. He's doing the job asked of him; sit in the cage, break up play/win the ball, find your own man; I'm not sure what people expect? ?? Fact is, he'd be more at home in Man City's midfield, and if I were him I'd probably be a little frustrated that he's found himself playing for a manager, in a set-up, as rigidly one-dimensional as ours; surrounded by players not fit to lace his boots. He's a class above anything else we have on the pitch right now; and given the dearth of ability being demonstrated of late, I'm staggered that he's coming in for criticism. He's too good for us, and in time that will be proven.
