Play decent football as opposed to our supposed hoofing.
Have quite a few decent players.
Have a good chairman running the club.
Seems a decent enough chap does Martinez so why the struggles because afterall football is supposedly everything that hoofball isn't.
I do quite like them as a club too.

i think they should get extra points for playing the right way and we should be relegated because our football is not entertaining enough

sell their best players (valencia, palacios, etc) and for some reason think that di santo and sammon are premiership strikers. don't like wigan at all, their fans don't deserve a premier league team on their doorstep and always a club i will hope to see relegated

If Wigan go down in May, they will have spent seven seasons as a Premier League club. Put away your petty agendas for a couple of minutes and you will see that for a club of their size and support that is a fantastic effort. They weren't even a Football League club 35 years ago!

They're struggling because they haven't scored that many goals, conceded more and as such, don't have many points.

After suffering defeat they just don't seem to have the same bouncebackability as other teams around them.

They have undoubtedly punched way above their weight and were comfortable up until a couple of years ago. They were the model for teams coming up from the championship before Stoke were promoted. Undoubtedly, losing their best players hasn't helped. It's a lesson for Stoke. If we stay in the top flight for seven years we will have done incredibly well.

Wigan's finishes in the Prem:
05/06 - 10th (17 points above relegation) 06/07 - 17th (survived by +1 better GD than Sheffield United) 07/08 - 14th (4 points above relegation) 08/09 - 11th (11 points above relegation) 09/10 - 16th (6 points above relegation) 10/11 - 16th (3 points above relegation)
and 11/12 as it stands - 20th and at least 6 points from safety.
It's fair to say that the only comfortable seasons that they had were 05/06 and 08/09, other than that they've been fairly close to the drop on a consistent basis. They've done brilliantly well to stay up, but I think they've been riding their luck somewhat and it seems to be coming to an end.

Thats a very realistic point, but also a point people forget. Just because we have spent £100 since promotion doesn't mean we are big enough to stay up, we still have to pick up the points from the 38 league games available.

wigan have the worst squad of players in the league and are only still in the league because they don't have a trigger happy chairman and their manager is pretty good. They have done brilliantly to punch above their weight, but will probably go down this season as they don't have enough, along with bolton and wolves i think.

Stokes last 4 years have been builkt on strong defence, becoming difficult to beat. More attacking players have been added without MAJOR success (Crouch,Pennant,Jones).
As someone has said quick comparison of Huth/Shawcross v Caldwell/Alcaraz goes a long way toward supplying the answer.
Also players like Rodellega have not lived up to their early promise. Wigan have searched the foreign market well (Valencia, Palacios, Diame) but have also pick up a lot of duffers (ie Alcaraz.....there are better CB's in the Championship/ Div.1).
I doubt if any team in the Prem. fears going to Wigan....their home support is poor and they suffer from their proximity to Manchester, Bolton, Blackburn.
Despite all that I'd like to see them stay up but suspect their approach may prove to be too lightweight.

They have consistently sold their best players and managed to replace them effectively, this time it may have gone wrong for them.
They try to play the ball about but if you want to do that, you can't do it as a point of principal, at the expense of results, which is waht they are doing, giving away possession and goals by trying to play football with players who aren't good enough.
I'll be glad to see the back of them to be honest.

They shouldn't be struggling, they play the right way. Its a bloody travesty that every year a team that 'plays the right way' goes down. It should be us down there. Curse us, curse us, curse us and our useless lying shitbag of a manager.
This Saturday I shall take up my seat at the Brit, sit back and proclaim... 'Stoke City...entertain me'

Dave whelans wealth was at one time enough to support top flight status. Other clubs have now caught them up and left them behind financially.

I know a few Wigan fans that would be quietly pleased if they went down. There's supposedly quite a bit of discontent with Martinez and Whelan and a lot of the hardcore Wigan following are pissed off with the amount of people that don't support Wigan but take advantage of cheap tickets just to see the big teams playing there.

A pretty inoffensive club really that in my opinion have done a tremendous job living in this league. A shining light to many smaller teams.

Because like Wenger Bobby is a deluded prick and hasn't a clue about how a defence is supposed to function therefore it doesn't matter a shit how well you pass the ball round if your defence is division 2 standard.

Sounds bitter and vindictive but ultimately it's true. Their defense is rubbish and the pretty passing generally takes place on the safety of the half way line, miles away from the opposition's goal. Post a link on their message board... all three of their fans might respond.
