Yep - you watch every team who comes to the BRIT now will double up on Etherington and Pennant - they also know our midfield lacks pace, vision and ability to hurt them which is what Pardew worked out tonight. Liverpool, Chelsea and Utd all assumed their defences could cope with our wide men and we were 'up for it' Tonight we just weren't at the races and Newcastle fully deserved their win.

Important points pissed up the wall by us tonight. We get sweet FA from away games so how do we compensate points-wise for this cock-up?! The hard work of taking points from Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool is negated by tonights game. Pissed off

It was a horror show but at the end of the day it was one good goal for them, one laughable goal and one dodgy penalty.
Get over it. We move on. Every team loses one at home now and again. How the feck it's Newcastle I'll never know. But they were tight, well organised and looked good on the ball.

I think Newcastle got it tactically spot on. They put men behind the ball and just played on the break. 2 very soft goals conceded from long balls. But the key was by playing 5 at the back and having 3 holding midfielders it stifled our wingers, and meant we didn't get much joy from the knock downs. They knew we weren't going to get our centre midfielders beyond the ball so it meant our front 2 and wingers were outnumbered.
Granted second half I thought we battered them, but again it's all balls into the box and set pieces in the hope it drops for us. Normally this works but maybe it needed someone coming through from the centre mid to support or get beyond our strikers. Thing is our system doesn't allow it.
I honestly thought after we scored that we would get a result, but Huths cynical side came through when we needed him to keep his head.
That result and how Newcastle played should give our management food for thought. It shows we need another option I think too if teams come and play like that at the Brit.

I thought we desperately needed Jerome to come on and give them something to think about, having said that, I thought Kenwyne did quite well. Wilson looked a bit of a liability as their first 2 goals came were a result of him not defending properly

The simple fact is we have no midfield. Everything is at a snails pace and Newcastle had us worked out from the first whistle. We won no second balls today and the passing was diabolical resulting in us punting it in the general direction of Crouch. They pressed us really well and scored from two throws launched into the box.. it seems we cant defend them either. They deserved the win we were dogshite. Ba was a real handful and stronger than he looks. On that performance one we missed.

Is this really a player we have paid 8m quid for when we are desperate for a left back and a right back and 2 mid fielders and a winger. can we really afford to buy a bench warmer?
We have half a team and were buying sugar players. Demba Ba is a risk ok I'll take that but Palacios is a bloody certainty at the moment, when the hell is he going to be fit and don't give me this Stoke fit crap I have a bad heart and could outpace half our team.
If that liability Huth is worth ten bob then sell him and buy some players (fit players) I just hope he's apologised to the whole team for thumping their defender in the stomach, tackling their keeper after the whistle not to mention oops giving away a penalty just as we look to have finally started to try (NB not play well but at least try)
I won't be totally negative as I do want to support my team,
Awesome start to the second half by the 12th man really lifted the team well done all.
I've said this before TP needs some experienced help at the moment, he looks lost. we can't afford a learning season on rotating a squad or the price will be relegation. Europe is new to us players are one thing , experienced backroom staff are another.

Pardew was very clever tonight.Guttierez as an auxiliary full back and pushing on Obertan. Also he realised if you press OUR midfield they're not skilful enough to keep the ball.Pardew 1-0 Pulis.

Great tactical work by Pardew - nullified our predictable wide play we two men on Ethers and Pennant every time - we did not have the know how or skill to open them up elsewhere. generally a poor show and a bit worrying at this time of the sesaon - three losses on the trot and two at home. Other teams have the answers to our offensive play but we have no answers to theirs.

Why didn't we play Cameron last night? He's been doing well for us in Europe (minus the silly red card) but still not had a PL match yet. He would of defiantly made some impact on the game instead of crouch.
Palacios could help us in the middle instead of Whelan who was just a no show.

Newcastle seemed much faster than us, the ball seemed to fly from one end of the pitch to the other with very little midfield interception and some howlers of chances to score were missed.
Not my favourite game

You know what the most maddening thing was for me? I had actually started to believe that we could challenge for the top half this season....I like the new signings and was excited by the prospects we have invested in. Too long have I expected little and received as much. This season I actually thought we might do it....I am so fuc*ing angry at myself for foolishly expecting Stoke City to produce. We were utterly clueless and I am once again rueing the £1,000 + I have invested in season tickets. I cannot see this improving with TP on his own, even though I like him as a manager. Hoof after hoof after wasted fuc*ing HOOF. I was embarrassed last night at our ineptness and apparent total lack of ideas.
Will we beat Bolton away? HAH to quote Brian Cant "Playaway" my arse.
I couldnt sleep last night....all I kept hearing was "Demba Ba, Demba Ba, Demba Demba Ba-a"
Dodgy knee...feck off!! Dont West Ham have docs on the staff? Do Newcastle?? Someone got it fuc*ing wrong big time...he played brilliantly well done lad....rub that salt in...I would have celebrated by limping past the Stoke dugout....3 fecking times!!!!

Been having a read through a few threads about this game v Newcastle and have to say I agree with what most of you are saying. I came on expecting us to be getting slated for the towel use etc but you's seem level headed over it. Few points from what I observed:
Towel use was obviously a tactic employed by Pardew to get the fans and Pulis annoyed which I think is safe to say it worked. Wasnt thrilling to watch but done the job.
I think Newcastle were shocking against your lot, we didnt pass anywhere near what weve been used to this season but I cant grumble with 3 points at the Brittania!
I actually feel for you's as the style of football Stoke played at times was horrible to watch. Yes you's work hard and have some good players but I think they are de-valued by the long ball/hold up approach and dont get me started on the long throws!!
I think Pardew got the tactics and mentality spot on for this game. We absorbed some amount of pressure before trying to launch our own attacks and while we didnt look great on the ball, I think we defended brilliantly against an organised team.
My final point is one which drives me mad. Dont think that NUFC fans think we are going to finish top 4, this is something the media comstantly do and claim that we are deluded etc but we get offered top 12 right now Id still take it. We have had a great start to the season but got a hard run coming up. I dont see Stoke struggling for much longer but I do see a desperate need for change of style. From what Iv seen the likes of Whelan, Etherington, Pennant, Walters, Jones etc can all play football, so why not let them!?!?
Finally, when I signed up and had to type the word in the box to prove im not a bot (or whatever it is for) the word I had to type was 'bath towel'. I found this quite humorous!
That is all

Hello stokies, Geordie here; thought I'd best wait a couple of days before coming on here, by the way I'm not a WUM. I thought we deserved all the points on Monday night, thought we played well, defended well and counter attacked with pace - granted your defense didn't make it hard What I watched on Monday night I thought was a deplorable approach to a game of football by Stoke.... Here me out before you jump down my throat please. I don't understand why you make the pitch smaller, yet have two decent wingers and strikers who thrive on headed goals from crosses!?!? Pennant and etherington on the wings, both can cross a ball quite well, crouch and jones are very capable headers of the ball and not too bad with there feet, so why buy these household name players if you are not going to utilize there strengths?? Pennant was playing for throw ins all night long and your supporters on the touch line seemed to wet there knickers at the thought of a delap throw in?? Is that how bleak things are at the britania ? I honestly could not watch that week in and week out, I would rather turn to a different sport. I know our players took the p*** with the towel drying the ball but you can expect this from now on I would think, Pardew has just shown all other manager show to beat Stoke at being Stoke. I think it is a real disservice to the game is totally an utterly un-sporting. Do any of yous think you play better on a bigger pitch?? Would you prefer to see your team actually try and get the ball down and have a go?? We are punching above our station at the moment But with credibility and due to really hard graft and endeavor, we won't finsih in top 4 but we might be 6th or 7th, yous will be ok but can honestly turn up and support that thuggery wek in and week out, you were like cavemen in Sunderland strips on Monday night. Be interested to get your views?
