Our current defensive frailties makes me wonder at what point AN will be tempted to give Tchamadeu an opportunity. It won't be tomorrow, but he is one of the new lads that we have yet to see much of so far and, let's face it, we are not exactly stocked with defenders that are in good form. I am hoping for a 4-3-3 tomorrow. Round pegs in round holes please AN. It wouldn't really be round pegs in round holes even with Tchamadeu, from what I've read he can play there but he's not really a left back is he. I'm hoping we stay away from 4-3-3, we should be playing 4-2-3-1 with the squad we've got.

He certainly talks a good game doesn't he. Energetic in midfield, cue Laurent in the starting 11 😶

I always think back to the season got us promoted. I remember a midweek point at Preston where we had players injured and just defended. We coped with injuries and would still be hard to beat because we had a good pool of defenders to choose from. Defence always comes first Yes it's impossible to build anything on weak foundations.. that is a truth that should not be forgotten. Edit www.ibroxnews.com/2023/09/29/ben-davies-proves-rangers-right-after-decision-to-turn-down-late-transfer-move/I read earlier we tried to get Davies for virtually nothing in that we tried to get his club to agree a loan with them paying almost all his wages late on jn the window. Given we had money that seems verging on ridiculous! You may know more though mate given your Glasgow connections? Depends who you believe, some had us down as offering a significant %

I think we''ve got to eliminate the unselectables, and then just do the best we can with the rest. At the moment, I'd say we can't pick Rose or Wesley. Probably Gayle too. So we are limited. Travers Hoever Wilmot McNally Gooch Pearson Burger (or Laurent) Johnson Haks Vidigal Bae If you think you need a bit more physicality up there, it's got to be Lowe ahead of Wes or Gayle Why can't we pick Wesley? He's been fine when we actually play to his strengths, it just hasn't happened enough.

Travers Gooch McNally Rose Jr Pearson Sidibe Haks DJ Vidigal Wesley why are people picking rose over last years POTS (albeit little choice) wilmot? Rose wouldnt get in vales team Pots means nothing but even still it was ridiculous it was given to him, he's been a mainstay in a poor defence. Something needs to be done and dropping him hasn't been tried, it needs to happen, he's a massive liability.

As we wallow around trying to find some style that works, lurching ever closer to an inevitable change of manager, leads me to think what is our DNA? Speak to Spurs, Liverpool Man Utd fans they expect high energy, entertaining attacking football, Man City, Arsenal expect a high press, total football solution. Drop down the leagues, Norwich, expect flowing attacking football, Millwall the aggressive high energy in your face style. If we were to identify our DNA and strategic direction that we instil throughout the club what would we go for? For me it’s that stable resilient no nonsense core, based around a keeper, 2 brutal centre half’s, a no nonsense defensive midfielder, 2 hard working wingers that can pick up their defensive duties as well as attack, a maverick centre midfielder to create , a grafting target man and another skilful/ maverick forward, high energy, in your face, aggressive but with the ability to play a bit. at times as well. I hope for the day that we settle on a strategy and recruit for it as opposed to lurching from one managers whim to another This is absolutely part of the reason we are struggling. Nail this down and we can move forward. The Prem years and Hughes Stokalona muddied the waters around what we are about (however nice that was at the time). I'm not saying we don't deserve good football (and haven't had it by any stretch of the imagination). Build on the basics, we don't lose a game ala the relegation season under Pulis and that turning point against Forest. Build a core, build momentum and we will do great things. What do you mean what we're about?

Coates will also be expecting top 6 because that’s what Neil said was expected of him this season or last Yep, but it's the expecting, we have no right to expect, aim for yes why wouldn't you but it's a bit arrogant to expect it imo.

it wasn’t a negative net spend , Souttar money was last season and will be on those accounts There has been a negative net spend during AN’s tenure of between £7.5M and £10M depending on fees reported and structure of deals. I’m not a massive AN fan but please explain where these big expectations come from. I was excited and encouraged by our change of direction in recruitment but big expectations really? They come from fans thinking we're bigger/better than we are, I got it when we got relegated because we had the money and should have had the players to give it a go but we're pretty much like everyone else now but a little more financially sound. AN was also going on about promotion which probably helped it along.

Plenty were expecting top six for some reason, so I wouldn't say it's bollocks. yep Coates jnr is expecting top 6 , and so he should after backing his manager He has tbf.

I keep seeing this pop up across here and on Twitter/X that we as fans have massive expectations and it's hard for players to rise up to it. Is it just me or is it complete bollocks? I don't think any fan would be upset at a top half finish with a push for playoffs and that was never an unrealistic expectation after relegation although as the years go by maybe it is becoming one but considering where we were 5 years ago and the money invested in the squad since I don't think it is a massive expectation at all. Plenty were expecting top six for some reason, so I wouldn't say it's bollocks.

Not a big surprise re Campbell, he's just too desperate to score and was trying shots from anywhere however stupid, he just needs to chill out and take more care with it.

Why is everyone responding with a starting 11 of currently injured olayers? Surely you've got to name a side for as if tomorrow I thought this was if they're all fit rather than game specific tbh.

We have to try and get 11 players on the pitch, that doesn't include, Wilmot, Laurent, Thompson, Gayle & Wesley. Wilmots been a main part of our poor defence for the past few seasons. Laurent & Thompson bring nothing in a game. Gayle & Wesley would struggle to score 5 goals between them over a full season. Nothing wrong with Wesley if he's used right.

Campbell hasn't signed has he? Is it hard work being a bell end all the time? Nothing to do with being a bellend, just pointing out that if he hasn't signed he can moan all he wants he doesn't have a leg to stand on.

So the get bodies around him would work fine if he has nice hold up play. We need to play to our players strengths and if it's hold up play on the floor we should be aiming to get it to his feet. We certainly should, but a 6 ft 4 target man that can’t run, jump or score is still pretty limiting to our play? If we’d signed Keenan Davis at the very least he’d be able to make some runs and win the odd header. Crouch managed it 😂 But in all seriousness he can hold the ball up so play around that until some gets back to fitness , take the goal scoring off him and get the wide players playing more adventurous going forward.

Tbf he can't really react till late, I'm guessing it went through the players infront first. I would like to see it from behind the goal, several players from both sides trying to get something on it in front of him. I don't think anyone got a touch and deflected it but it's possible. I don't think anyone got a touch but he still has to wait incase they do before he can make a move.

I think unfortunately we are seeing why he hadn’t played a minute of English football since his big knee injury at Villa. I think the “get bodies around him” argument only has legs if there are some attributes to his game to take advantage of that justify building a team around him. Aside from some nice hold up play (on the floor) he really doesn’t do much else as far as I can see? He’s barely had a shot or looked remotely close to getting on the end of anything. I don’t think Gayle offers much either, but at least he combines some reasonable footballing ability with the ability to finish - admittedly his ability to get in the positions to do this appear to be drastically reduced now his legs have gone, but you’d at least back him to score if something drops him around the box. So the get bodies around him would work fine if he has nice hold up play. We need to play to our players strengths and if it's hold up play on the floor we should be aiming to get it to his feet.

Is it him or the defenders making continual fuck ups? So far I'd argue most of the goals conceded are down to the players rather than the tactics. Its been mistake after mistake, if it carries on obviously he'll be a gonner but don't expect it to change with a new manager. It’s his team now. He’s signed 18 players (or however many it is). It’s his fault that we have a centre half pool of Wilmott, Rose & McNally. The defensive dross that we witness game after game is all on him. October looks a tough month & not sure he’ll survive until November. It is on him that we have such a poor set of defenders but there's plenty on here that think the sun shines out of Wilmots arse and are happy about him even though he's the biggest liability we've had for the last two seasons. Saying that I don't think anyone thought it would be this bad, McNally had a great season and many including me were happy we'd got him but he struggles to do even basic defending like letting the oppo just walk into the box from a position that should have easily be dealt with, that's not on the manager imo its basics.

Sounded like the keeper messed up for the second tonight, we don't have the players though, for someone thats so amazing in the air Wilmot doesn't half get beaten a lot.

Maybe he was but he's done, if we were to hire him again it would be the biggest mistake the owners have made since relegation. Simply won't happen but be interesting enough About as interesting as watching paint dry

Vidigal aside, what starting 11 wouldn't be devoid of goals? Which is exactly what I said. It’s not a criticism I was just struggling to understand why everyone wanted to see such a toothless line up. Fair enough, my mistake, I thought you were suggesting he should have put a different side out because of it. I think this is the best it could have been really, we're missing so many.

Nope, I'm just not going over the top about one game with a decent number of our squad missing playing a Prem team. tbf i don’t care about this game , expected to lose against a prem team , it’s the league i’m worried about , and he’s taking us down as it stands So why are you crying on a thread specifically about the game.
