I'd like to bitch slap the smugness out of him He slowly ruined the squad, along with Scholes and cartwright And he lost his job because of it. The other 2 continue to destroy our club.

I’m not remotely ITK but have heard a story about our recruitment strategy under Hughes from a reliable source who knows the player involved that I think is pretty telling. This summer us and another Premier League team were seriously in for the same player, who is someone IMO would have seriously improved our team this season. Hughes plus others in the Stoke hierarchy (don’t know precisely who) met him and his agent at a hotel and made a take it or leave it contract offer and said there was no chance of negotiation. But the player also wasn’t impressed with Hughes who apparently largely just went on and on about his own playing career and how he had transformed the reputation of Stoke. In contrast, the other club rolled out the red carpet and did everything they could to convince him to pick them and he’d be an important part of their plans - they flew the player out to the manager’s villa overseas and the club’s owners even went to his house to meet him and his girlfriend and convince him to sign. Guess who he picked. Can’t speak for other situations (think it is pretty common knowledge we were in for Soares, Redmond and Lemina who all ended up choosing Soton) but seems pretty clear to me that while Hughes wasn’t free of blame himself, he was hamstrung by our wage structure and recruitment tactics to a fair extent. You just know that you've come up with a load of crap right there.

My hatred for Hughes has gone above Quitterall levels now. The way he went on the pitch to celebrate as if the cup run is his achievement is sickening. An absolute c**t. Don't be silly. He went on the pitch to congratulate his players and to bring about a bit of togetherness. They're in the same pile of shite as us.

Apart from Crouch that starting 11 looked like our strongest team, losing to a poor Bournemouth side is very ominous indeed In all fairness, Bournemouth's home form recently has been very good. But I agree with your sentiments.

Fletcher dropped from squad?

I actually agree with the poster above. Ireland deserves a chance in the number 10 role. He showed a lot of promise against United. He has the skill to pick apart a defence which is something we desperately lacked today. Hopefully Paul won't be so stubborn and put the past behind him.

The most important thing is to leave Fletcher out as he was really awful tonight! Zouma must also be better at his decision making with the ball at his feet! Zouma is perhaps the one player whose decision making with the ball at his feet is just as bad as fletcher's. Solid defender yes but he constantly puts his team mates in trouble with cross-field passes.

After tonight's performance and looking at some of the other results, I'm very worried how we can escape the drop. I think Huddersfield are dropping like a stone and I think they're a certainty. I can't get myself to think that the saints or swans will go down. Bournemouth should be safe. West Brom have looked very decent in recent weeks and I can see them get a few points in their next couple of games. Palace and West Ham don't look like they're in too much danger. So that leaves us with Brighton and Newcastle.

Bournemouth coming into the game after a 3-0 away win at Chelsea so I expect this one to be tough. A win would be a huge result. I'd go for: Butland Bauer Shawcross Zouma Pieters Allen N'Diaye Choupo Shaqiri Jese Diouf Allen needs to play as a 10 with Cameron and N'Diaye as holding midfielders. That should make us defensively solid.

I would seriously be worried about Swansea tbh. Since their new manager came in, they've won 2, drawn 1 and lost 1 (in a game against Tottenham where they looked really good).

The relegation battle is a 10 horse race. Hold on to your seats folks!!! I wouldn't even say Burnley and Everton is out of that, ahem, inverted race...they've both lost their way lately. Everton definitely in it at the moment. Burnley will be fine.

Have Liverpool just been really shit tonight or have Swansea made them look really shit? I would worry if it's the latter.

I would honestly like to know what makes Hughes tick. Off the record, few pints, you know the drill. Other than him Horace Austerberry (in charge 1897 - 1908) purely and simply because of his name (rather than the controversial circumstances of his time in charge) and to know what he thinks about football in 2018, in a Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure stylee. Hughes seems like the sort of fellow who'd quietly read his newspaper in the corner whilst everyone else is on the dance floor. Too introverted. The answer to OP has to be waddo right?

No chance whatsoever. Schurrle is so good he could walk straight into the squad of most Champions League clubs. This could be said for Shaqiri from the outside, if you didn't watch him week in, week out??? I seriously doubt anyone rates Shaq that highly.

4 Goals and 5 assists? Not that bad for free is he? How many has the 25 million pound Austrian got this season in comparison? 6 goals in the last 7 I think. The bastard's hit serious form in the past few months.

With Scholes and Carto still in charge, I refuse to believe this report till I see him in red and white stripes with a couple of oatcakes in hand. I'm afraid I'm the same...........however, we DID manage to do the Bauer and Staffy deals without too much hassle. Maybe we can get Jack H and a couple of others over the line in this window, too (Badou, Vainqueur, Dembele, Bas Dost???) Yes midfield needs serious re-inforcing, with an injection of speed and physicality. Jack + Badou would sum up an outstanding transfer window although the latter seems to have stalled a little bit.
