They have highlights of it on Stoke World, tis worth the subscription on it's own. What is Alan Parry going on about at the start of the game though? He says Manure made a lot of changes for the match yet they still have Schmeichel,Martin,Sharpe,Irwin,Pallister,Kanchelskis,Hughes,Robson,McClair and Dublin?? Not counting the ones that aren't mentioned.. He redeems himself at the end though as Steino leaves Schmeichel rooted to the spot for his 2nd goal 'he scores goals that others can only dream about'

Too young to remember it.
In fact too young. (fullstop)
I didn't go and i may still have been living in huddersfield at the time.
Didn't even know we'd played them!

One of my favourite Stoke games, seeing the reports splashed across the backpages of the nationals meant a lot as a ten year old!!
Boy did I have fun next day at school!
Cracking atmosphere too, nearly crushed to death amid THE mental of all time on the Boothen.

Sorry to ask but what was the score.
I was only like 4 and it was a two hour drive with my dads driving.

That game came straight after a 2-1 win away at Middlesbrough and a 3-2 win away at Nottingham Forest, both clubs who'd been relegated from the Premiership the previous spring. What a week that was, you genuinely felt that something really big was just around the corner. In vintage Stoke style though, we managed to lose the next match at home to Southend , then Liam Brady was sacked by Celtic and Chelsea came sniffing around Steino

Totally agree Dave - totally gutted when Celtic sacked Liam Brady as it was a cert they'd come for Lou. It was 2-1 to us N01stokie, Steino with a stupendous shot in the 1st half that red nose didn't even see Dublin equalised for them with a header in the second half and then a couple of mins later Steino popped up to score another "others only dream about" !!!

I ended up on the bottom shelf when that second goal went in,I was crushed against one of the barriers that ran parallel with the gangways,so I got it straight in the ribs, definitely didn't spoil the night though.Alan Parry "He didn't need anyone else, that was vintage Stein".Still got the recording of that nights Central sports extra.

Was a magnificent night. I can remember Sarah saying to me, dont get excited blah blah we're not going to score against Man U before THAT mental erupted as Toddy fed Steino and...bada bing...what a goal.
The second was awesome. Was right behind it and iI ended up near the corner flag.
Man U last 3 visits...3 defeats!!! not too shabby.
We didn't play too bad at Old Trafford 2nd leg. Stein was carrying an injury and I think Sturridge played. First half we held them but Lee Sharp scored seconds into the 2nd half. Carruthers went real close but then McClair scored right at the death.

Was 85 I think...the year we set the record for 17 points...3 wins all season, Man U, Sheff Wed and Arsenal.
To be honest Utd should have led by a bagful by the time we equalised. I think Ian Painter and Carl Saunders scored...the second a penalty as Arthur Albiston handled on the line. Was mayhem.
Really was a shocker of a Stoke side. I seem to remember just over 5000 at a game v Coventry as we eventually went down.

I was at Uni in Bristol at the time and managed to avoid the game until the highlights came on ITV later that evening. I had my own private mental at about 11.25 PM.
Bloody second legs!

We were actually relegated at home to Everton (who won the title that year). There was over 18,000 in the Vic that day.
The following Tuesday, we were at home to Norwich and the crowd was just over 4,200.
The Cov game you're on about was the final home match of the season and it was played on a Friday night (the day before the cup final I think).
Despite those crowds, the atmosphere inside the Vic was still electric ;D

Yep remember the Everton game well.
2-0 loss that practically gave them the title.
Didn't Kevin Ratcliffe clobber Chris Maskerey with the corner flag in the second half?
I remember some everton scallies nicking a hot dog stand in 'Castle after the game. Was real pissed off as i was next to be served.
