I was OK, I also did a lot of running and cross country which helped with fitness, (wonder why they always put me as a box to box midfielder ) played against the Army a couple of times when in the Navy, a win and a draw so undefeated against the mud crunchers

Played lots of Ladsandads and for the middle school team as a kid, both teams used to win our league and cups pretty much every season (same team for both bar one 'ringer' in the Ladsandads:)) Ladsandads second in the area cup to Duggie Browns' lads team. Then went to senior school and was told by our midget PE teacher that I wasn't big enough for the school team! Switched to Rugby then for a while, after joining the Navy I played for most ships I was on, Football and Rugby. Had trials for the Vale as a kid (shock horror!) not good enough sadly, although my Dad disagreed Fancied myself as a Billy Bremner type of player as a kid, loved the feel of bone crunching tackle

Played SOT schoolboys and SOT youth before signing associate schoolboy forms for the Potters. Let go at 17(not good enuff) and went to OZ signing for Pan Hellenic (nowSydney Olympic) played two rep games for NSW. Knee injury at 27 then moved back to UK and played WMIds league (1975)before taking up Rugby due to my humungous weight gain and played for Longton for 13 years before packing in age 45. Now to old and fooked to do anything but watch Stoke when at home and Longton when Stoke are away. I still know fuk all about tactics.

I played Country football at School, University First XI football at Keele and played for Halesowen Town, Stourbridge Town & Stouport Swifts before switching to Sunday mornings. We played teams like Meir KA & Knypersley Vics, and at Halesowen we used to play Wolves & Albion in pre-season every year. Played against the likes of Bull, Mutch, Bannister, Bob Taylor etc etc. You realise quickly the difference in talent. Except for Bull, outside the box he was shite. Inside it, i admit he had his uses

Played lads and dads from the age of 11 and was a good centre half, stopped playing when i had to work weekends but carried on playing 5 a side with friends, started back up last year as a striker and broke my foot in the warm up for the first friendly and then when that healed i went over on my ankle and now have tendinitis in my ankles so missed most of that season. I've signed for a team this season and i'm playing upfront, i'd say i'm like the kevin davies of my team, trouble for defenders and can find the net (but i dont dive), scored 2 in my last 2 games

When I was 11 (year6) at primary school (hugo meynell loggerheads) We got to the Adidas Predator National 6-a-side finals and lost in the semis which turned out that we were 2 games away from playing at Villa Park! Gutted aint the word cried all the way home!! But did get pulled aside after the tournament and was asked to go for a trial at Derby County (prem at the time) but sadly never made it! Now I dont play at all sooo lazy!!

Bloody hell, some impressive stuff here (if two-thirds is true obviously ;D).
It's different for girls or used to be because there were so few outlets, if I'd been a bloke I guess I'd probably have been Sunday league standard max - eddy's mum, that is seriously impressive with your hockey, how far did the rest of the females on here get, at football and/or other sports?
surreystokie was an international athlete so I reckon she starts off in the lead...

I played up front for school/county and could never claim to be a great player but scored zillions of goals. Later played for unit/Corps/Garrison in the Army and had a great scoring record without ever being a great player. Managed lots of Army teams and, whilst based in Colchester, applied for the manager's job with a humorous/spoof application. Got a fantastic letter from Johnathan Crisp (then Chairman) explaining that my letter had them all rolling on the floor with laughter but, reluctantly, they were looking elsewhere. Still got the letter in a frame. Like most others, I think I know about management/tactics etc but WTF do any of us know?

After spending a couple of season with Real Madrid in La Liga playing alongside Alfredo di Stefano and Feranc Puskas, I was lured away by the bright lights of Biddulph to play for the Vic's.
Looking back, I've never regretted that decision for a moment, after all leaving the Bernabaeu and Royal Palace, Gran Via, Retiro Park, Plaza de Espana for the culinary delights of the Biddulph Fish Bar and the Kebab House wasn't a difficult decision.

Sal, the only real difference between semi-pro and good amateur football is fitness. I've played with blokes who are shite at football, but because they are fit they have got a game in a decent standard of semi-pro football. The problem you have is when the beer comes a-calling....

When I was 13 I was chosen for the Stoke City Girls Centre of Excellence, but only lasted 1 season. I then played Sunday league for Harrier Ladies until I was about 15, and looking back the standard was pretty shocking. I then stopped playing until I joined my uni team last year, but I didnt get very far with that (team not picked on football ability, more ability to knock back absinthe shots) so I left to play for Torpoint Athletic Ladies who play in South West Division 1 (I thought we were Premier but I got mixed up, uni played in Devon Premier). I have to say the standard is excellent, the pitches I play on now are superb compared to a few years ago, and the support we get from the Cornwall FA is brilliant too. Ladies Football definatly seems to be improving.

Youth football days ruined by knee injuries, but then struggled on playing at Uni, in the Warwickshire League and then had an ACL reconstruction to give me a new lease of football life in my late 20s. I have moved around with work since then, in Bermuda was captain of one of the top ex-pat teams and got a few goals from centre mid (10 in one season!), including two in a big FA Cup game, and another in the replay, which were live on local radio, and saw my photo and a big report on the front page of the Bermuda Royal Gazette sports section (I still have several copies if anyone is interested! ;D), then played in the Yau Yee League in Hong Kong, and the Jersey Football Combination before finally packing in at 39 after a few more niggling injuries and operations, when kids half my age, but with far less skill (IMHO!!), were making me look stupid.
My dad was far better than me - he played for Staffs Schools, was a centre half down Stoke as a young kid partnering Alan Bloor, and played for Meir CA for a number of years.
Next generation turned 5 yesterday - left footed like his dad and grandad, kicks like a mule!! ;D

I've always been a cricketer but I gave footy a go with all my old school mates I only played about 3 seasons and was mainly a left winger. Absolutely bags of pace and fitness and I'd battle Richard Cresswell style for the full 90 minutes but I ended up spending about half my time at right back just on the basis of adding pace and fitness to the back four ;D When I was 15 though, I started experiencing some pretty horrible knee pains. I was diagnosed with a condition called Osgood Schatters Disease. I carried on playing both my cricket and football but slowly realised that there was no way I could continue doing both and at 17 I made the choice to continue with my cricket over the football. I still suffer badly from knee pains now because I'm a wicketkeeper and there's a lot of stress put onto my knees. I've also lost at least 2 seconds of pace which is a massive gutting feeling so my football career is pretty much over at the old age of 19

mcf74 used to be on Stoke's books at youth level. That is why he is always right - well, more right than some. ;D I played against him a few times when I was 14/15...he carried a bit around with him even then!

I was a striker. With a very good scoring rate too. I didn't win as many honours as I might have done but I played for some big clubs and in two World Cups. My main asset was pouncing in the six yard box. Paul Gascoigne told me once all my gols had been l;ucky. I wittily replied that I had been lucky 48 times for England! DAM! There I go again....thinking I'm Gary Lineker!!

My scoring record doesn't quite match up to yours but I've played for some massive clubs in the Premiership and in Italy. I currently play for a Premier League team, although I'm on loan at a Championship side at the moment - just to get my fitness up, ready to burst back onto the Prem scene with a good run of goals. DAMN! There I go again, thinking I'm Vincent Pericard...
