Picture the scene. A damp secluded warehouse, an old chair, gaffer tape, rolled up socks and a maniacal Chuffed laughing insanely into my poor ears. I had no option😫 I can’t even talk about the feather situation😟 That's my police interview technique given away then, took ages to perfect that, doesn't half get results though. 😳👍

Naaaaaaah, Nige, never got into that.......... but I did know a chap back then who watched it every week and 'melted with desire' (or similar) every time one of the actors was on screen (dunno who) as he really fancied him! That was the one I went to the Royal Exchange Theatre with & afterwards he said "let's go for a drink" and - (little innocent me) - he took me to Canal Street!!!! Talk about a baptism of fire - it was my one and only ever visit there, and to say I felt like a spare you-know-what at a you-know-where would be an understatement. Whilst working on water mains, a colleague and I did some work at the top of Canal Street. If there was anything notable, we'd take a photo to be included in the report to United Utilities.
Apparently our report on that particular hydrant caused much hilarity at UU as we'd taken a photo of the street sign ... and our admin hadn't realised why we'd taken it and had included it in the report. The sign at the time had had the "C" and "S" removed to read anal treet

Excellent! I'm sure that must be a very accurate interpretation. All I can say is that I'm no expert on the subject of gay men's bars, but on the way there from the theatre my friend's pace certainly quickened the closer we got to the destination, and his eyes definitely lit up when we got there - if you imagine Dracula let loose in a bloodbank you'll get the picture...

Had a lovely piece of Ox cheek for tea last night, slowly braised in red wine. Never had it before, think it’s going to become a Sunday lunch staple from now on.

Only 2 beers left and it’s only 8. Do I start on the wife’s vodka or just stop drinking ? This is massive concern

Did you do it in a slow-cooker, Badge, or braised in the oven? I've never had it and virtually never eat red meat, but I know it's the sort of thing Crispin would like and so I could give Parker a note to take to Anton, asking him to see to it. Presumably you put root vegs in, too?

Presumably you put root vegs in, too? In the oven on 150C for 4 hrs. Fried off come chopped carrot, onion, celery and garlic. Seared the cheeks first. Added a pint of Merlot with half a pint of beef stock, sprigs of Thyme, bay leaves and salt n pepper. And put in the oven. Dropped some button mushrooms in towards the end. Served with buttery mash and red cabbage stewed with apple. Oh then blitzed the sauce and reduced it for ten mins on the hob to make a silky gravy.

Next time there's a reprint of the world-famous best-selling cookbook, 'Château Murph Cuisines du Monde' I think I'll include a chapter called 'Faves from the Cake' and - subject to Badge's permission - include this.

Managed to get myself a job interview in a few weeks time. Any interview tips? Not had to have one for 23 years😬 There was one piece of advice that someone gave me a long time ago which had never crossed my mind before and whether or not it sealed the deal I'll never know. It was to ask for the job, so at the end of the interview I just said "have I got the job?". The two guys in front of me said very politely that they'd be in touch soon as they had to see others and two days later an offer was in the post. It wasn't the most memorable of interviews but I got the result. I'd never been that bold before and it felt a bit cocky but you've got nothing to lose.

I think you can get that caught up trying to create a good impression you end up making an arse of yourself through putting too much pressure on your shoulders to impress. I’ll perhaps tone the language down a tad though😏👍🏻

The company in question called me just after I’d posted this and said “we were expecting you for an interview at 2pm”. Of course my jaw immediately dropped to the floor before they confirmed they had made an error and meant to say August and not September as stated on the email😬. So going Tuesday now, urgent prep and tips required!

Shows you've done a bit of homework.

Buggeration! Just realised it's August. I'm sure it's Dees's birthday in August - I seem to remember an 8 in it, eg. the 18th. Could be wrong! Belatedly, Happy Birthday, Dees! xxx
