There's a fish n chip sit down restaurant in Haworth in Yorkshire (or was when I was last there about 8 years ago) that served superb grub. Not too far away from the Bronte Parsonage. Also there's a place in the main street in Caernarfon that does fish n chips that are the best I've ever had. Shall have to put Skipton on my list now! The one in Skipton is called Busy Lizzie’s ...very good fish and chips , we go it it regularly over the summer There is a very good one in Conway called the Galleon that does lovey food , it’s only open from Easter though , closed from end of August I think ?

There's a tiny shop in Parkgate on the Wirral that does superb fish and chips that really take some beating. It's the ground floor of a tiny terraced house and there's always a queue stretching outside. There's also a really good ice cream shop as well. Any idea what it’s called ? We may try them if we are out that way .

That's the one ! Lovely fish and chips every time we've called in. Always busy which is usually a good sign.

"One" of the spare bedrooms, I note. Ladies and gents, our esteemed friend is putting out a non too subtle coded message that he lives in a mansion....and in Cheshire no less. Must be worth a pretty penny or two, I reckon. How do the walls look like now after the second coat, or is it the third? Would you recommend this purple paint or is it a gimmick? Far more important...is the Managing Director satisfied? Dees isn't the only one, Auntie - have you never visited Bispham Towers, 'oop narth' ??? His Nibbs has even got his own private beach! To say nothing of the sprawling private estate, 'The Bisparosa', on Lanzers....... It's so big you can see it from space. Lets just clarify this ...it’s not a private’s beach ....but an old sand pit from when the kids were younger

That sort of thing is frowned on in the Fylde, and it's usually too flippin cold for it anyway. Leave it to them cavalier types in the tropics of Brighton.

It’s always too cold for that sort of thing on the Fylde coast ! It's crying out for carrots bish But you have to plant them AT LEAST 2 FEET above the ground to avoid them getting ruined by getting carrot-fly, 'Arry. I saw that on 'Gardening Time' on TV once and it's the only 'Gardening Time' thing that's ever stuck. PS: I LOVE carrots. Thought you'd want to know that. And whose round is it?????

Sadly not true 😕 Ah…….. the rental potential……. yes indeedy - there's a BIG profit to be made from rentals, like when Okie and I make quite a heap by renting Bispham Towers out to all the asylum seekers every time you're away in Lanzers…… They certainly like it & enjoy themselves hugely whilst there - in fact sometimes we do have quite a bit of a 'pushing & pulling' match getting them back out again when we know your return is imminent..... It's a good job Okie's got muscles like Jean-Claude Van D Jon Clawed John Cloud that Belgian chap - and he never stands for any messing.

Quite right murph - the little blighters only fly about 12-18 inches off the ground. I always sow the seeds in a raised bed about 2 foot high - never any problems with carrot fly. I also sow parsnip seeds in it as well.

Would have made a superb Ingmar Bergman film, D. Sadly he's no longer with us. I'll put myself forward for an extra part - third box of washing powder from the left.
Talking old directors, Mrs Q & I discovered the Talking Pictures channel on satellite recently & we watch an old movie most nights when she's not on a late shift. Watched Saloon Bar last night - marvellous British character acting.

Sounds like a Western. Mares likes old Westerns. Oh, but it can't be a Western if it's 'British character acting'......... Can't beat Jack Hawkins for that sort of thing IMO. The old B&W British films were staggeringly good..... 'Brief Encounter', 'Rebecca', Dirk Bogarde in 'Victim', etc. FABULOUS.

Mrs Q can't stand Westerns. I'm not fussed either way by them.
Set predominantly in a pub with the regulars trying to crack the case of a murder. Utterly brilliant. Gordon Harker is magnificent. And a very early appearance from Roddy McDowell too.

One of the washing machines could have a menacing voice, like Hal, the computer, in 2001. Picture the scene: "I'm sorry, I can't let you do that, Musik........... I have decided to ban washing socks........" Scares the bejeezus out of me.

Thanks VM, JD....... found it. 'Saloon Bar' - it's with three other films on a DVD called 'The Ealing Studios Rarities Collection' - Volume 10 - £4.98
Volume 10 says it all - there's a market for these old B&W films! smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00F99HSZW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1

Me - Edward Norton (even if 5 women have said I'm a Russell Crowe-copy), a combo would be perfect! The man with the german shepherd dog - definitely John Lithgow, with a beard. The radio man - Anthony Hopkins, no doubt! With glasses. The anti-environmental guy - a mad version of Brad Garrett (who plays Robert in Everybody loves Raymond). 😀

Three foot ish is what is recommended ...but you can always doubly be sure by covering them with fleece , also sow them thinly to minimise thinning out , the scent given off when thinning seedlings attracts them .I have two old dustbins that I grow mine in , too tall for the little blighters !
