SIGN HIM UP TONE!!!
I feel he just fits everything we have - African, Fast, Fearless and will give 100% once he knows we're behind him! Owen or Martins? No brainer! Go get him!

SIGN HIM UP TONE!!! and will give 100% once he knows we're behind him! I'm not convinced about this bit. Hugely pacy, talented striker but did seem to disappear a lot and pull out of games with suspicious "injuries". Still, at that price worth a shot certainly.

Is this the same martins who couldnt hit a cows arse with a banjo when on loan to us.
Then we decided not to sign him after seeing him in banjo & cows arse competition
we have definatly progressed since then surely

When figures of £12,000,000 for players like Crouch are being bandied around, £5,000,000 for Obafemi Martins is an absolute bargain.
£5,000,000 for Roger Johnson or £5,000,000 for Obafemi Martins? It's an absolute no-brainer.

Here we go again, yet another player that we have next to no hope of signing. And yet again there are those that 'don't rate him'. It's all getting a little pathetic. To suggest that Martins would come here and play second fiddle to Fuller (are you mad?)
1. He won't be coming
2. He's classes better than Fuller!

He won't be coming, doz. I agree there but to suggest he's "classes above Fuller" is, in my humble opinion, madness I don't think we realise just how good Fuller is and are wrongly awed by all these 'stars' who once were quite good for Inter Milan or some other giant at some undefined point in the past. Fuller is an absolute class act who would have got pretty near to the top of the English game IMO if his knees wouldn't have f****d up the middle part of his career just as it was taking off.

If Fuller hadn't had so many injury problems earlier in his career he'd probably be at Everton or Villa or someone like that. He's that good.

FullerMagic: I love Ric mate and he IS a class player. But measuring him against Martins, sorry mate just can't agree.

I think he's the most under-rated player in the country. And long may it continue that he slips under the radar and enjoys iconic status in the Potteries.

I'm sorry, but there are very few forwards in the Premier League who can take on a man and beat him like Fuller can, while still being big and powerful. If his knees hadn't gone, I dread to think where he'd be now.

I genuinely believe that a fully fit and in form Ashton and Fuller could be one of the most devastating partnerships in the Prem.
Right up there with the best of 'em.

Listen, I'm not knocking Ric and I agree with most of the positive comments about him. Both my lads love him to bits and I rate him as highly as the rest of you. But Martins is a top player (if a bit of an individual - like Ric). On balance, I think Martins would be an amazing signing (won't happen). Loads of clubs will want him and, no matter how much we rate Ric (and I do) we don't and won't have a long list of top clubs lining up to sign him.

got to be on £50k+ at Newcastle Utd though hasnt he? £72k a week someone said
would have to take a massive pay cut to come here - prem football though -
perhaps we could do a Duberry style deal where the player still gets his big wages (until the the time his Newcastle contract is due up) but those wages are split between the clubs.
I think Newcastle will have to take that option with several players imho.

Mr_Daftburger: I know a great deal about Colin Wanker but just can't see the relevance of your post on this thread when there is one devoted to that footballing genius.

Mr_Daftburger: I know a great deal about Colin Wanker but just can't see the relevance of your post on this thread when there is one devoted to that footballing genius. Because he has a repututation for signing lots and lots of strikers and we have been linked with lots and lots of strikers Doz.
