4PM UPDATE: FANS FLOCK TO BRITANNIA STADIUM Be the first reader to comment on this story
15:07 - 12 February 2008
Stoke have upped their crowd estimate to around 22,000 for tonight's clash with Southampton after being swamped with demand for tickets.
Queues have been forming at the Britannia ticket office for the past two days, while fans phoning for bookings are having to wait as long as 45 minutes to get through.
Director of football John Rudge met queuing fans earlier today to help them pass the time.
The club has apologised to supporters for the wait, but insist every available window and phone is being staffed.
Supporters are flocking to the cause after the club launched a 'buy-one, get-one free' offer on this week's home games against Southampton tonight and Scunthorpe on Friday.
"The response seem to have been terrific," says manager Tony Pulis, "and I thank all our supporters in advance.
"We need them every step of the way and I'm sure they will make it a cracking atmosphere tonight.
"It's now down to us to get the players right so they put on a performance and hopefully get the result we all want.
"The players should certainly relish playing in front of a big crowd - it's another sign that everyone is now pulling in the same direction at this football club."
Tickets remain on sale before the game and supporters are urged to both arrive early and sit in their allocated seat to avoid hold-ups.
