Ps3 mate, alot of people or on xbox as probably alot of your mates will be, but its £40 a year subscription and free to go online on PS3 but its not as good (yet) as xbox live.
I found the xbox was like a fucking jet engine taking off, the ps3 is quiet, runs smooth but you have mandatory installs for updates and things.
Decent selection of exclusive games on both but I would say PS3 would tip it.
Welcome to Oatcake btw.

I'm not even getting into this This always starts up a huge rivarly on the board between the Xboxers and the PS3ers and gets out of control with people thinking theres is the superior console.

What have your mates got?
What games do you want to play?
Do you watch a lot of films?
Oh and Xbox Live only costs £30 now for a year so that works out at around..... £30 a year £2.50 a month £0.57 a week £0.083 a day
I'm sure everyone can afford £2.50 a month.

forgot about blu ray. Its a brilliant player and sound if fantastic on full 5.1 surround.
Ive got the 40gig model and for the same price now you can buy an 80gig now (gutted).
Backward compatability, Ive had resi 3 running fine on mine, and alot of people have said other popular games like msg 1,2,3, resi 1,2 work fine, just a case of giving them a try.

Prob best to get what your mates have so you can play them online, I will say though, I know a few people who have had both and the 360 always comes out on top with them, Xbox live is just awesome and well worth £30 a year, you can also use it to stream music, play videos you have downloaded to your PC and share your pictures over the network.
The Blu Ray player is a big plus for the PS3, but i hear live is very bad compared to xbox live.
My old Xbox was very noisy but the new one is silent, they have added the option to install th game to the hard disk.

These threads are stupid as everyone just says get which console they have. Best bet is to get what your friends have got so you can play with them

I have both (and a Wii which I havent actually been near for about a year and a half)
XBox 360 is the best all round, more games, games look better, better online
Fuck that Blu Ray shit off - You want a games console not a home fucking cinema !!!

The difference isn't good enough yet between the different media, games look the same as they can both be outputted through HDMI at 1080p.

The big thing Sony banged on about before release is that they would release bigger and better games due to the blu ray disks, but I'm pretty sure the only game you could'nt fit on so a dvd is MGS4, possibly Killzone2.

ps3, simple to use, same control pads everyones used to, seems to be edging it with new games aswell, online is free and works great. I wouldnt touch an xbox with a barge poll for one the pads are horrendus, plus you have to pay to go online which is shocking

Online is better on the Xbox 360 and isn't expensive so i don't mind paying for it and it works out very cheap Setting up the Xbox is probably easier from my experiences. From my history of PS3's you have to mess around with MAC codes etc. None of that with my Xbox. Onto the games. There are no games that would make me go out and buy a PS3, where as on Xbox there are so many people who have bought the console just for Halo and Gears of War which are exclusive to Xbox Lastly, whenever i have seen reviews, tournaments and on TV shows that feature games consoles it seems to be Xbox 360's they are playing.

I liked the xbox controller but found it too confusing after years of using the psx/2 pads. Xbox was great to hold but simplicity is key.
Never had to fuck around with the settings to get it working either, and I've set it up about 3 times (different networks etc)

PS3 every time, nothing wrong with online services, why pay Microsoft for something that's pointless and is there on the PS3 for free.

every pads made of plastic lol, dont look cheap to me. The ps3 is easy to set up you just turn it on connect to your network and make up your online id and your away, my online experience is great never bin a problem for me. to me the xbox 360 is cheap to sell more but if i had the choice i would save up a little bit more to just get the ps3, great system, better made, free online, probably better games bar halo

I have'nt entered into one of these debates for quite a while because as stokie_jiggz says, everybody favours the console that they have. I'm lucky to have both consoles so can give a fair judgement on both. The PS3 is a good machine with lots of potential, but the pure simple fact that Sony constantly fail to deliver what they say is starting to piss the Sony fanboys off, you just have to look on the ps3 forums to see this. Yes, the online is free with the PS3, but if you play both machines online quite a lot (as I do) it will soon become very clear that Xbox live is Premier league and Sony have just been promoted to Div 2. It is getting better online, but the updates, the shop, Home etc really do get on your nerves for the constant network errors. Xbox live is so simple and so quick, it really is a dream. The graphics on both machines are exactly the same and anybody who says different is just telling porkies, like somebody said above, its more about what TV you have got and what it can output. The other major point is what your friends have got. No point buying either machine if all your mates have got the other one. Believe me, online play is getting to be essential with games now, so you want to be able to enjoy them with mates rather than some 12 year old Fat Americans who reckon Stoke is next door to Buckingham Palace!!!! For me, it HAS to be Xbox. Don't get me wrong, the PS3 is catching up, but very very slowly.

I will say though, I know a few people who have had both and the 360 always comes out on top with them. I had both, sold the 360 after picking up a PS3... it was just collecting dust after a while. My 360 was one of the old loud ones though, couldn't play it at night because it was louder than I can have the tv when my lady is in bed (upstairs). My mates have all got PS3's though, that's important when picking which to get.
